It was launched back in August 2019 running Android Pie layered with MIUI 10 atop. It has since been updated to Android 10 and has been awaiting Android 11. To recall, the phone first got a taste of Android 11 back in early 2021 when it rolled out in China.

However, no Android 11 rolled out in regions like India and Redmi Note 8 users therein have been waiting on the same for over 9 months now. That has changed now though with the release of build 12.0.1.0.RCOINXM that carries a size of 2.2GB. The update has only rolled out to those part of the Mi Pilot Testers program currently, meaning regular users may still have to wait for a few more days.

In terms of features, there’s barely anything new considering that the ROM is still based on MIUI 12. Yes, you heard that right – MIUI 13 is set to be launched by the end of this year but the Redmi Note 8 is yet to get a taste of MIUI 12.5. The device is still eligible for MIUI 13 though, so perhaps, Xiaomi plans to upgrade the device directly to the same.

Tipster Abhishek Yadav claims that the Android 11 update for the device is laggy, but it does add stuff like the October security patch, support for RAM extension, navigation pill, and horizontal recents arrangement.

But now that Android 11 is finally here, it’s time for some bad news. Xiaomi typically updates its budget devices with at least three MIUI versions and two Android versions, so the Redmi Note 8 is nearing its end of life. Daily Chinese beta builds have already stopped for it along with the Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9 Lite (Mi CC9), Mi 9 Pro 5G, Redmi K20 (Mi 9T), Redmi K20 Pro (Mi 9T Pro), and Redmi Note 8 Pro (via Xiaomiui). This means that MIUI 13 will be the last major update for these devices.

Since then, the world’s third-largest smartphone maker has been updating its devices to the latest version of its mobile software. As of now, the company’s flagship, mid-range, select budget phones have received the update. Only certain budget and older handsets are yet to get the update.

On the other hand, the 2020 premium devices that have been updated to MIUI 12 have also started receiving Android 11 update. Hence, the firm has now revealed the next batch of handsets that will be getting the latest version of Android.

That said, it is not sure when Android 11 builds will be released for the above-mentioned phones. Because the company has suspended the beta program for an unspecific period of time from next week ahead of MIUI 12.5 release.

Anyway, even after the firm starts releasing those builds, the final stable update for different regions may take time to arrive.

Note: Redmi K30 4G, POCO X2, Redmi K30 5G, Mi CC9 Pro, Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition, Mi Note 10, and Mi 10 Pro from 2019 are also eligible for Android 11 update. It will also have an 8MP ultrawide angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor on the back.

The phone will also have an in-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, an audio jack, and an FM radio. The Mi 9 Lite will pack a 4030mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging and will have Gorilla Glass 5 covering its display and its back. It will run Android 9 Pie out of the box

The Thailand agency has certified a Xiaomi phone with the model number M1904F3BG and the certificate does say this is the Mi 9 Lite. The model number is near identical to that of the Mi CC9 sold in China whose model number is M1904F3BT.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite was first certified in Russia by the EEC back in early August, but then we thought it would launch as the Mi A3 Pro. Sadly, that will not be the case. As it stands now, the chance of a Pro version of the Mi A3 existing is getting slim, and those waiting for one may have to settle for the Mi A3 or another device.

The Mi 9 Lite may launch this month, and when it does, it will carry the familiar Mi logo on its back and run MIUI. The phone will have a 6.39-inch FHD+ display with a notch at the top for a 32MP selfie camera. It will also have an in-display fingerprint scanner.

The phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 710 processor, with 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage. Irrespective of the version you purchase, you will be able to add more storage via a MicroSD card slot. On the back will be triple rear cameras – a 48MP f/1.8 primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide camera, and a 2MP depth sensor.

The Mi 9 Lite should pack a 4030mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. It will have a USB type-c port, a 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, and an infrared port too. Xiaomi will ship it with MIUI based on Android 9 Pie.

We reported a few days ago that a phone called the Mi 9 Lite was found on Google’s list of certified Android devices. The list revealed the phone is related to the Mi CC9, one of the two phones developed by Xiaomi and Meitu. Now, more info has surfaced saying the Mi CC9 will indeed launch as the Mi 9 Lite outside China.

The source of the info is a tweet by Xiaomishka a few days ago. According to him, a colleague and a Polish retailer confirmed that the Mi CC9 will be sold as the Mi 9 Lite for the global market.

#Xiaomi #MiCC9 #Mi9Lite
Guys do you remember, that model M1904F3BG appeared in EEC database? Then we thought it would be a #mia3pro or Mi CC9 Global Version.
Now my colleague and the Polish retailer confirmed that in the global market the Mi CC9 will be sold as Mi 9 Lite.

— Xiaomishka (@xiaomishka) September 1, 2019

The Mi 9 Lite is said to be the Xiaomi phone with the model number M1904F3BG which was certified by Russia’s EEC early last month.

As at the time of writing, there is no info about the launch date and the price of the phone but it should not be far off.

With the launch of the Mi 9 Lite, the Mi 9 family now has six members. There is the Mi 9 itself, the Mi 9 Transparent Edition, the Mi 9 SE, and then the Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro.

The Mi 9 Lite should be priced close to the Mi 9 SE. Although the Mi 9 SE has a slightly more powerful processor and better cameras (on paper), the Mi 9 Lite/Xiaomi CC9 offers a bigger display and a bigger battery capacity.

Mishaal Rahman, the editor-in-chief of XDA-Developers tweeted that a new device called the Mi 9 Lite recently appeared on Google’s list of certified Android devices. The device is shown to be a variant of the Xiaomi CC9 and it also has the same “pyxis” codename.

There is not enough information regarding the device but other than the name change, this will have the same specs as the Mi CC9. This is not the first time a Xiaomi phone will go by a different name in a different market. The Redmi K20/K20 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9T/9T Pro are the most recent examples. There is also the Redmi Note 5A (Prime) which launched as the Redmi Y1 in India.

Earlier this year, there were rumors of a phone called the Mi 9X but it never launched. The Mi 9 Lite has a higher chance of launching since it already popped up on Google’s Certified Android devices list.
