<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Microsoft</a> has recently taken a significant step in phasing out its Windows 10 Mobile platform by quietly shutting down the core functionalities of its Microsoft Store app store on this platform. This closure signifies the end of an era for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/windows-10-mobile/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Windows 10 Mobile</a> and the classic generation of Windows Phone systems. The Lumia 950 series was the first to feature Windows 10 back in 2015.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-582001" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Microsoft-Store.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2>Windows 10 Mobile App Store&#8217;s homepage is apparently not accessible</h2>

<p>Users have reported that the store&#8217;s homepage is no longer accessible, and the pages designated for app downloads and updates fail to load correctly. Additionally, the app details page is experiencing intermittent issues. This decline in functionality follows Microsoft&#8217;s decision in December 2019 to end support for all Windows 10 Mobile devices, a move paralleled by the closure of the Windows Phone 8.1 store in the same period.</p>

<p>Despite the termination of device support, the Microsoft Store app store remained operational for a time. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/microsoft/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Microsoft</a> had assured users that while the operating system would not receive further updates, the app store would continue to function, leaving the app and software support to the discretion of developers and OEMs.</p>

<p>An important feature of Windows 10 Mobile is its support for sideloading, allowing users to install applications outside of the Microsoft Store. This capability remains a vital alternative for users, especially in the wake of the store&#8217;s malfunction. Intriguingly, some users have reported that the store resumes normal function upon installing the latest offline package, suggesting a potential workaround for accessing the store&#8217;s services.</p>

<p>Microsoft has shifted its primary focus away from mobile platforms and is now concentrating on AI and the PC market. There have been rumors suggesting that the company is actively working on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/30/microsoft-web-focused-variant-of-windows-12/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">development of Windows 12</a>. Recently, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made a significant statement, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/10/25/satya-nadella-says-shutting-down-microsofts-mobile-business-was-a-mistake/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">acknowledging that discontinuing Windows Phone was a mistake</a>.</p>

<p>Despite the PC market being a lucrative area for Microsoft, the mobile device market is still expanding and evolving, especially with the emergence of new products like foldable devices. Many smartphone companies joined the market relatively late but have achieved success through perseverance. While Microsoft entered the smartphone arena somewhat belatedly, it was during the early days of smartphones, and thus, missed out on this opportunity.</p>

<p>At the recent Microsoft Build 2023 conference in Seattle, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Microsoft</a> unveiled several exciting updates for the Microsoft Store, showcasing the company&#8217;s commitment to leveraging <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/artificial-intelligence/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">artificial intelligence</a> (AI) for enhanced user experiences. Among the notable additions is an AI-generated review summary feature, designed to simplify the process of researching and selecting apps.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store-1024x576.png?x10805" alt="Microsoft-Store" class="wp-image-539594" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Microsoft-Store.png 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h2>AI-Generated Review Summaries Simplify App Selection</h2>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews-1024x576.webp?x10805" alt="Microsoft_Store_AI_powered_reviews" class="wp-image-539592" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews-746x420.webp 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_powered_reviews.webp 1100w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The forthcoming AI-generated review summaries aim to provide users with a concise overview of app reviews, eliminating the need to sift through extensive feedback. By harnessing the power of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ai/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AI</a>, Microsoft intends to streamline the app research process and improve the overall customer experience. While a specific release date has yet to be confirmed, Microsoft has assured users that the feature will be introduced soon.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="750" height="422" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_Suggested_keywords_.webp?x10805" alt="Microsoft Store AI suggested keywords" class="wp-image-539593" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_Suggested_keywords_.webp 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_Suggested_keywords_-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_Suggested_keywords_-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Store_AI_Suggested_keywords_-746x420.webp 746w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></figure></div>

<p>In addition to the review summaries, Microsoft announced the introduction of a dedicated section within the Microsoft Store called the AI Hub. This section aims to highlight the best AI-centric apps developed by the Microsoft community and external developers. Apps such as Luminar Neo, Descript, Podcastle, Kickresume, Play.ht, Copy.ai, and Tripnotes are among the featured applications in the AI Hub.</p>

<p>Microsoft is also introducing AI-generated keywords in the Partner Center, empowering developers to better showcase their apps to users. By leveraging AI technology, the Microsoft Store will enhance app discoverability, utilizing developers&#8217; metadata and other relevant signals. Furthermore, users will now have the option to assign multiple categories to each app, providing developers with a valuable tool to reach a wider customer base.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Microsoft Store | Spotlight Ads" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QlJ5ROpTe6M?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p>To further support developers, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/microsoft/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Microsoft</a> announced a change in its Store Ads policy, allowing them to display ads for their <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">apps</a> on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/bing/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bing</a> search. Previously, the apps featured in the spotlight section at the top of the Microsoft Store were chosen by the editorial team. The inclusion of ads in this section, which may feature videos, aims to drive increased traffic and discoverability for developers&#8217; apps. This change will be implemented in conjunction with Microsoft&#8217;s plans to expand the Microsoft Store Ads program to more than 150 regions worldwide, enabling developers to reach a broader audience.</p>
