Apple announced the latest iOS 16 operating system for the Apple iPhone models at its Worldwide Developers’ Conference a couple of months back. Since then, the company has released several developer builds and public beta versions of the software.

Now, in the latest development, the Cupertino-based tech giant has rolled out the fifth public beta version of the iOS 16 operating system, which is most likely the final public beta before the official rollout of the stable version.

The fifth public beta of the iOS 16, along with the iPadOS 16, comes just a week after the company released the fourth public beta, corresponding with the seventh developer beta version of the operating system.

The new iOS 16 from Apple comes with several new features, including a revamped Lock Screen with support for customizations of wallpapers, time, and widgets. It also allows multiple lock screens, which can also be linked to Focus modes.

Apart from the major changes to the design of the OS and new features, the first-party apps have also received several new features and improved functionalities, including Messages, FaceTime, Safari, and more.

If you haven’t enrolled in the public beta testing program, then you can sign up through Apple’s website. The operating system is still under development, so the beta builds may have stability issues. But, the company is expected to roll out the stable version of iOS 16 in the coming weeks.

Huawei recently unveiled the HarmonyOS 2.0 for a range of products and now the Chinese giant is expected to launch the same for smartphones tomorrow (16th December), starting with Developer Beta build.

Additionally, a report coming from a leaker claims that the HarmonyOS 2.0 Beta for smartphones has already been shipped to some developers and it seems that the kernel has been updated to make the OS smoother.

It also adds that the user interface is almost similar to the EMUI 11 but it could be different when the company ships the stable build, with a focus on enhancing the user experience. Further, the report adds that the newer version of the operating system supports both Android as well as HarmonyOS applications.

If true, then this is a major step by Huawei towards replacing the Android operating system on its smartphones. For those who are unaware, the Chinese giant has been trying to replace Android ever since the company was banned from using Google’s Android by the United State, by imposing sanctions.

After releasing the HarmonyOS 2.0 Smartphone Developer Beta version in China on 16th December at around 10:00 AM local time, the company’s experts will explain the key features and development tools.

Meanwhile, the company is expected to launch a HarmonyOS-powered smartwatch in the coming weeks. It is also said to be gearing up to launch a tablet powered by its own operating system, which could debut along with the P50-series flagship smartphones.

Last month, at the Huawei Developers Conference, the company officially unveiled the HarmonyOS 2.0 and also revealed its plan of using the newer version of the self-developed operating system on smartphones.

Now, a new report about the adaptation of HarmonyOS for Huawei and Honor smartphones based on the chipset has leaked online. It claims that the Kirin 9000 will be the first to get the update, which includes the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 lineup.

After that, the next in line to receive the new operating system is Kirin 990 5G that powers the Huawei Mate 30 series, P40 series, Mate Xs, Nove 6 5G, and Honor 30 series. However, not all of these devices are expected to get the update in the first rollout.

In the third batch, the HarmonyOS update will be rolled out to devices powered by the Kirin 990 4G, Kirin 985, and select devices of Kirin 820 SoC. In the fourth batch, all the remaining devices of the chipsets mentioned earlier as well as Kirin 980 will get the update. At last, phones powered by Kirin 810 and Kirin 710 will get the newer version of the OS.

Notably, the list doesn’t include devices powered by the Kirin 970 chipset, which includes the Huawei Mate 10 series, P20 series, and a few other devices. The list seems to confirm that the update will be available for older smartphone models as well.

Previously, the company had revealed that it plans to roll out a beta version of HarmonyOS 2.0 by December exclusively for developers. After initial testing, the software will be available for a few smartphones in Q1 2021.

Huawei has received temporary relief from the US ban for 90 days which is set to expire in August. In case the ban on the company isn’t lifted by then, Huawei is getting prepared with its backup plan.

Huawei Technologies Co Ltd has applied for the trademark of its “Hongmeng” mobile operating system with the Peruvian authorities. As we recently reported, the company is expected to launch the Hongmeng OS in October this year.

Peru’s anti-trust agency Indecopi has said that Huawei filed the trademark request on May 27, days after the United States put Huawei on a blacklist that barred it from business with global tech companies, including Google. This also bars Huawei from using the Android operating system on its devices.

As per local newspaper Diario Correo, there are some 5.5 million users of Huawei cellphones in Peru, a country of 32 million people. Earlier, the company had confirmed that it was working on a back-up operating system in case Huawei was cut off from U.S.-made technology and software.

Indecopi has said that it needs additional information from Huawei before it could register a trademark for Hongmeng. However, it has refrained from providing any more details on the documents it said it had requested from Huawei. But it informed that the company has been given up to nine months to respond.

According to the reports, when the Hongmeng OS gets released, it won’t be having an application ecosystem to fulfill the needs of a high-end user and thus, Huawei is expected to focus on the budget smartphone segment with its own OS in the initial stages.

Outside China, Huawei is expected to ship its Hongmeng mobile operating system to Central and Eastern Europe as well as emerging countries. Europe is one of the major markets for the company and it has been putting efforts to develop an app ecosystem of its own for the European market.

Canonical as the Ubuntu developer company says that the Google Nexus user will be able to ported Ubuntu OS for smartphone soon, that’s mean the Google Nexus smartphone can running Ubuntu OS for smartphone.

As reported by the OMG Ubuntu, Canonical Engineering Manager Alan Pope informed, the company will launch an Ubuntu image to download. The Image is intended to Galaxy Nexus handset and can be used at the end of February. Not yet known when exactly, but estimated at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013 which be helds between February 25th to 28th, 2013.

Ubuntu OS is designed for smartphones, has the swiping gesture, is used to navigate and move the page like the one on the touch screen in general. While the main features of the phone such as make calls, send messages, and other cameras have reportedly been working well.
