Motorola Moto G64 5G was released as a budget 5G smartphone in April. It’s boasts a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 chip and packs a substantial 6,000 mAh battery. The base variant with 8GB RAM is currently available for Rs. 15,384, while the 12GB RAM version costs Rs. 16,499.

The Moto G64 5G is a decent 5G smartphone. However, there are alternatives from other brands that offer more value for a similar price. So, if you’re looking to buy the Moto G64 5G, don’t forget to check out these alternatives to make an informed decision.

The Poco F4 5G is probably the best alternative to Moto G64 5G.

The Poco phone has a bigger display, and that, too, is an AMOLED panel rather than an LCD panel as on the Moto G64. Moreover, the Poco F4 is protected using Corning Gorilla Glass 5, but the Moto phone lacks such protection.

Both smartphones support a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the Poco F4 also has HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and a peak brightness of 1300 nits. Clearly, the Poco phone has a better display than the Moto G64.

The Moto G64 5G features a dual camera setup on the back. It includes a 50MP primary camera with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide camera with a 118-degree field of view. There’s also a 16MP sensor for selfies and video calls.

2. CMF Phone 1

The CMF Phone 1, another solid 5G phone, stands out with its unique user-replaceable back cover feature, sparking curiosity and interest among potential buyers.

The CMF Phone 1 has a larger screen, that too an AMOLED screen (vs. an LCD screen on the Moto G64) with a peak brightness of 2000 nits. It is powered by a more powerful Dimensity 7300 (4nm) chipset.

The CMF Phone 1 also has a 50MP primary camera, but there’s no OIS, and the secondary 2MP sensor works as a depth shooter. Both smartphones have a 16MP selfie camera.

Due to the lack of optical image stabilization (OIS), the CMF Phone 1 won’t record stable videos as good as the Moto G64. However, the former supports 4K video recording, while the latter doesn’t.

Notably, the CMF Phone 1 supports Wi-Fi 6 but lacks NFC. But the Moto G64 supports NFC but lacks Wi-Fi 6 support.

The CMF Phone 1 has a lower battery capacity but supports a higher fast charging. Both smartphones also support reverse wired charging.

3. OnePlus Nord CE 3 5G

The OnePlus Nord CE 3 5G (review) is better than the Moto G64 5G in many ways. First, it has an AMOLED panel with HDR10+ and support for 1 billion colours.

The OnePlus phone is powered by a Snapdragon 782G. It’s a high-performance chip with over 30% more AnTuTu score than the MediaTek Dimensity 7025.

The OnePlus Nord CE 3 will get two OS updates, while the Moto G64 will only get one. Since the Nord CE 3 was launched with Android 13, both will receive Android 15 as their final OS update.

Both smartphones have a 50MP primary camera with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide lens on the back. However, the Nord CE 3 also has a 2MP macro camera. Unlike the Moto phone, the OnePlus Nord CE 3 is capable of shooting 4K videos. For selfies, both devices have a 16MP punch-hole-style selfie shooter.

4. Galaxy A34 5G

The Galaxy A34 5G has a larger Super AMOLED screen protected using Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It’s powered by a Dimensity 1080 chipset, which performs better than the Dimensity 7025-powered Moto G64.

While the Moto G64 ships with Android 14, the Galaxy A34 comes with Android 13 out of the box. However, you’ll receive an Android 14 update as soon you as set up the device. Notably, the Galaxy A34 will receive four years of Android updates until Android 17.

The Galaxy A34 5G also can’t match the gigantic 6,000mAh battery of the Moto G64. It has got a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging support.

Moto G64 5G, announced in April this year in India, is one of the top budget-friendly 5G phones available on the market. Typically, budget 5G phones in India range in price from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. While there are many options in this price range, the Moto G64 stands out by offering features not commonly found among its competitors. Here are the top 10 reasons why you should consider the Moto G64 5G as your first 5G phone.

Dual camera setup with ultrawide camera

There are not many phones with ultrawide cameras under Rs 15,000. Apart from the Galaxy F34 5G, which debuted in August 2023, the Moto G64 5G is the only phone in the past twelve months to feature an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. With support for autofocus, the lens doubles as a macro camera.

Promises good performance on a budget phone

The Moto G64 5G is the only phone to feature MediaTek’s 6nm Dimensity 7025 chipset. It comes with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. With an AnTuTu benchmark score of around 500,000, it promises a solid performance experience. Among recent phones priced under Rs 15,000, the only other device offering 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage is the Infinix Note 40x 5G, which is equipped with the Dimensity 6300.

As far as gaming is concerned, the Moto G64 5G is decent enough to enjoy games in medium settings.

Clean UI experience

The G64 runs on Moto UX-based Android 14. Motorola has also committed to providing an Android 15 upgrade, expected to be available by next year. Additionally, the Moto G64 5G will receive three years of security updates. Like any other Motorola phone, the Moto G64 5G comes with annoying notifications.

Because it is a budget offering, the phone has several preloaded apps. The Shopping app is one of the apps that I found to be shady. It appears like a folder, but it is actually a third-party app store by Swish Apps, which also has other so-called “Folder” apps for Games Hub, Entertainment, and so on. The good thing is that these apps can be uninstalled. 

Massive battery

The Moto G64 5G draws power from a 6,000mAh battery. The device ships with a 33W fast charger, but the device supports 30W charging. While it takes around 1:30 hours to achieve a full charge, the device can easily last for two days on a single charge.  

Motorola has done a good job keeping the weight of the device under 200 grams. It weighs 192 grams and has a thickness of 8.89mm.

Simple yet attractive design

I have the Mint Green edition of the Moto G64 5G, which is also available in Pearl Blue and Ice Lilac. The phone has a matte finish on the back that effectively resists fingerprint marks, and the edges match the back’s color. It has an IP52 rating for splash resistance. On the front, the bottom bezel is slightly thicker compared to the other bezels. The display is shielded by a layer of Gorilla Glass 3. Overall, the Moto G64 5G offers a simple yet attractive design.

Decent display

The G64 packs a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel that offers an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness is only 560nits, which is sufficient for indoors, but it may not be very readable outdoors. The phone provides two color profiles: Natural and Saturated. Motorola claims that it supports a variable refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 120Hz. The 30Hz is not an available option and it appears that the phone switches to it automatically in the Auto option. Apart from Auto, it offers 60Hz and 120Hz refresh rate options in the Settings page.

Good audio experience

The Moto G64 can process and display HDR10 format content from streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. The dual speakers onboard, one at the bottom and the other embedded in the earpiece, produce a decent stereo experience. It comes with support for Dolby Atmos and Motorola Spatial Sound.

Reliable 5G connectivity

The Moto G64 5G promises impressive 5G connectivity features, including support for 14 5G bands, ensuring compatibility with various networks. It features three-carrier aggregation for faster data speeds and 4×4 MIMO technology for improved signal strength and reliability. Additionally, VoNR support allows for high-quality voice calls over 5G, enhancing the overall communication experience.

Other essentials

Most brands are getting rid of the 3.5mm audio jack, even on affordable smartphones. If you are someone who prefers a 3.5mm jack, the Moto G64 5G is a great choice, as it retains this feature, allowing you to use your wired headphones without needing an adapter.

The Moto G64 5G features a hybrid SIM slot for adding a microSD card. In addition, the device supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac and a side-facing fingerprint sensor. The device also supports up to 12 GB of virtual RAM, FM radio, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Value for money

Motorola has priced the G64’s 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB variants at Rs 13,999 and Rs 15,999, respectively. Apart from Flipkart, the phone is also available for purchase in offline stores in India.

Last week, Motorola launched the Moto G64 5G smartphone in the Indian market featuring the new MediaTek Dimensity 7025 chipset. Starting today, the device will finally be available to purchase in the country.

The Moto G64 5G smartphone will be available to purchase in India starting today (April 23) at 12 PM via Flipkart. The retail price of the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB configuration is Rs 14,999 and the 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage option costs Rs 16,999. That being said, Motorola is providing a Rs. 1000 discount on purchases made with an HDFC Bank Credit Card, knocking down the starting price of the smartphone to Rs 13,999.

Moto G64 5G specs:

The Moto G64 5G features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with an FHD+ punch-hole display. The display also offers a 120Hz refresh rate and is protected by Gorilla Glass.

As mentioned above, the device is powered by a Dimensity 7025 chipset paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The phone comes with a 6,000mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging. It supports memory expansion via a microSD card.

At the rear, the device features a 50-megapixel primary camera, paired with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens that also functions as a macro camera. Meanwhile, a 16-megapixel selfie camera is nestled within the punch-hole cutout on the front.

The device ships with an Android 14-based with a MyUX skin with guarantees of an update to Android 15 as well as three years of security update. The phone also has a 3.5mm audio jack, dual stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and dual SIM 5G connectivity.

Moto G64 5G has been launched in India. The device is the first phone to feature the all-new Dimensity 7025 chipset. It has arrived as the successor to the well-received Moto G54 5G, which was announced last year. The aforementioned chip is an overclocked version of the Dimensity 7020, which powered the Moto G54. Like the predecessor model, the G64 positions itself as a value-for-money device for those looking for an entry-level 5G phone. Here’s a look at what is in store for the buyers of the G64.

Moto G64 5G specifications and features

The Moto G64 features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a punch-hole design. The screen offers an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. In addition, it will have Gorilla Glass protection. It features an IP52-rated chassis, which measures 8.89mm in thickness and weighs 192 grams. 

The Dimensity 7025-powered smartphone ships with 8 GB / 12 GB of RAM. It also packs a 6,000mAh battery, up to 12 GB of RAM, and up to 256 GB of internal storage. For additional storage, it features a microSD card slot. The phone comes with support for 33W fast charging.

The rectangular bump at the back of the Moto G64 houses a dual-camera setup. The primary shooter will feature a 50-megapixel image sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS). An 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens complements the primary shooter, also serving as a macro camera. The centre-aligned punch-hole cutout on the screen houses a 16-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

The Moto G64 5G runs on Android 14 with a MyUX skin on top. Motorola is promising a guaranteed update to Android 15 and three years of security updates. The phone comes with other features, such as support for nine 5G bands, a dual SIM, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, a USB-C port, dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Moto G64 5G has arrived in India in two variants: 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage priced at Rs 14,999 and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage priced at Rs 16,999. It comes in shades, such as Ice Lilac, Pearl Blue, and Mint Green.

Motorola is providing a couple of offers for those interested in availing the G64. The first offer provides up to Rs 1,100 instant bank discount on HDFC Bank Cards. For full swipes using its credit card, customers receive an instant discount of Rs 1,000, making the effective price start at Rs 13,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant and Rs 15,999 for the 12GB+256GB variant.

Similarly, for HDFC Bank Credit Card or Debit Card EMI transactions, customers enjoy a discount of Rs 1,100, resulting in an effective price starting at Rs 13,899 for the 8GB+128GB variant and Rs 15,899 for the 12GB+256GB variant. Alternatively, customers can opt for the second offer, which offers a bump-up of Rs 1,000 on the exchange value on Flipkart, leading to an effective price starting at Rs 13,999 for the 8GB+128GB variant and Rs 15,999 for the 12GB+256GB variant. Flipkart will carry out the first sale of the G64 on April 23.
