Back in December 2020, Motorola released a list of devices that will be updated to Android 11. However, the company did not reveal when these phones will be getting the update. In late January, Moto G Pro became the first smartphone from the firm to get the Android 11 update. Now, over one and a half months later, two more Motorola handsets have started receiving the latest Android update.

According to a report by PiunikaWeb, Motorola has begun to roll out Android 11 stable update for the Moto G8 and the Moto G8 Power. The update is currently live in Colombia.

The same report says that the Lenovo-owned company had actually kickstarted the Android 11 soak testing (beta program) for these phones back in November itself. That means it took the firm around four months to deliver the stable update.

Anyway, the update is here now. Since both these handsets run a common software build, the Motorola Moto G8 and Moto G8 Power Android 11 stable arrives with build number RPE31.Q4U-47-35 and February 2021 security patches.

As of now, like any other new OTA update, this one is also being seeded out in batches. Hence, it is only available for select users in Colombia. However, it should be available for more users as well as in other regions in the coming days.

Realme Narzo 10 loses the comparison when it comes to the displays because it sports a lower resolution. It has a HD+ panel instead of a Full HD+ display found on the Redmi 9 and the Narzo 10. Note that in each case we are talking about cheap IPS panel, nothing special. But Redmi 9 and Moto G8 Power actually offer a way higher image definition. Redmi 9 has the widest display, while Motorola Moto G8 Power is more compact due to its smaller diagonal.

Specs & Software

It is a hard fight between the Helio G80 found on the Redmi 9 and Realme Narzo 10, and the Snapdragon 665 found on the Moto G8 Power. A lot of people would choose the Snapdragon 665 just because it is a Qualcomm chipset, but also because it is built with a better production process and it has a lower energy consumption. But Helio G80 is actually better in terms of performance, according to benchmarks. However, you should note that Redmi 9 comes in a variant with 6 GB of RAM, while Moto G8 Power has just 4 GB of RAM, so worse performance in multi-tasking. Motorola Moto G8 Power also comes with 64 GB of internal storage, while you can get up to 128 GB with Redmi 9 and Realme Narzo 10.

Camera

Realme Narzo 10 actually comes with an amazing main sensor for its rear camera department which shoots very detailed photos. But overall, Moto G8 Power is a better camera phone due to its brighter focal aperture, a telephoto lens and the support to 4K video recording. With its 13 MP quad camera and an 8 MP front camera, Redmi 9 is the most disappointing and you should definitely discard it if you need the greatest camera phone.

Battery

With Moto G8 Power, Redmi 9 and Realme Narzo 10 you get more or less the same battery capacity. But Realme Narzo 10 provides a longer battery life because it has a lower display resolution. Realme Narzo 10 is also the only one to support reverse charging, so you can use it as a power bank to charge other devices.

Price

Moto G8 Power is expected to hit India in July with a Rs. 17,890 / $237 price tag, Realme Narzo 10 is priced Rs. 11,999 / $159, and Redmi 9 is expected to launch in August with an Rs. 11,790 / $156 price tag. You have to spend more for the Moto G8 Power, but it is actually the best handset of this trio. If you want to save money, it is not necessary to wait for the Redmi 9 as the Realme Narzo 10 is actually a better handset on the paper (if we exclude the display).

Realme 6i, Motorola Moto G8 Power, and Samsung Galaxy M31 are not the best phones if we talk about aesthetics. They are all built with a polycarbonate body. I personally like the Motorola Moto G8 Power a bit more because it boasts a punch-hole display instead of a waterdrop notch. But Realme 6i is still interesting because of its original rear cover. Realme 6i and Motorola Moto G8 Power are splash resistant, while Samsung Galaxy M31 does not offer any kind of protection against water. Note that the Motorola Moto G8 Power is also the one with the most compact body.

Display

Realme 6i loses the display comparison because it is equipped with a below-average HD+ panel offering a lower resolution than its rivals. Moto G8 Power and Samsung Galaxy M31 are both Full HD+ phones, but the Samsung Galaxy M31 wins because it features a Super AMOLED display showing more brilliant color and deeper blacks. Unfortunately, despite it is AMOLED, it does not have an in-display fingerprint reader. On these devices, the fingerprint scanner is mounted on the back. Note that Motorola Moto G8 Power offers a more advanced audio department thanks to stereo speakers.

Specs & Software

Samsung Galaxy M31 packs the most impressive hardware department. It has a more efficient chipset, a higher amount of RAM (6 GB) and even a UFS 2.1 internal storage, while its opponents come with a standard eMMC storage. Unlike the Moto G8 Power, Samsung Galaxy M31 packs a dedicated micro SD slot, so you do not have to renounce to the dual SIM slot while expanding your internal storage. But Realme 6i is still an amazing phone when it comes to performance, thanks to its Helio G80 chipset offering very high CPU and graphics performance. All the handsets run Android 10 out of the box, but while Moto G8 Power offers a nearly stock experience, the others have customized UIs.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy M31 is equipped with the most impressive camera setup, including a 64 MP main sensor and a 32 MP selfie camera. But if you need a device with better zoom capabilities, go for the Moto G8 Power as it is the only with a telephoto sensor, and it is very hard to find a telephoto lens on a so affordable device. Both Samsung Galaxy M31 and Moto G8 Power can record 4K videos, while Realme 6i can not.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy M31 has the biggest battery, but the Realme 6i has a more efficient display, so it offers a battery life as great as the Galaxy M31 in a lot of scenarios. Even Moto G8 Power is very close to its opponents. In each case, you get a phone which can last up to three days of moderate use on a single charge.

Price

Realme 6i is priced €199/$217 in its base variant, Samsung Galaxy M31 begins at €269/$293, and Moto G8 Power starts from €229/$250. Is it worth spending more for the Galaxy M31? Yes, we think it is since it offers amazing cameras, an AMOLED screen, and even a bigger battery. But do not forget that you can find the Realme 6i at very nice street prices making it a device with a higher value for money than both its rivals. Moto G8 Power has a telephoto sensor, a Qualcomm chipset, and a stock Android experience, but honestly we do not see a lot of reasons why it should be preferred to the Galaxy M31. Last month, Motorola announced the Moto G power in the US and the Moto G8 Power in the UK. Both are mid-range phones with a Snapdragon 665 processor and a 5000mAh battery capacity. However, the former has three rear cameras while the latter has a quad-camera setup on the rear. Last week, it was revealed that Motorola was working on another version called the Moto G8 Power Lite.

The leak revealed this “Lite” version swaps the Snapdragon 665 processor for MediaTek’s Helio P35 chipset while keeping the 5000mAh battery capacity.

Press renders of the upcoming smartphone have now leaked and they show that Motorola will be retaining the design of the US’ Moto G Power.

The images of the Moto G8 Power Lite were posted on Twitter by Roland Quandt (@rquandt). The device has a hole in the top left corner of its display. It also has three rear cameras arranged vertically and a fingerprint scanner. The inscription beside the camera housing reveals the phone has an ultrawide camera and a macro camera paired with the primary sensor.

The images also show the Moto G8 Power Lite has an audio jack at the bottom, to the left of the USB port. The textured power and volume control buttons are on the right while the SIM tray is on the left.

There is still a lot we do not know about the Moto G8 Power Lite but we presume it will come with less RAM and storage than the Moto G Power which has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. We also expect it to be slightly cheaper.

Motorola is yet to announce a release date for the phone. The manufacturer is also expected to announce a flagship phone called the Moto Edge+ and a mid-range phone with a Snapdragon 675 processor called the Motorola One Mid.

Design

Moto G8 Power offers a more attractive design and even a better build quality, but personal tastes play an important role in this kind of choice. Moto G8 Power has a plastic back, but it is the only model to sport a sturdy aluminum frame (6000 series). Further, it is splash resistant and it has a futuristic punch-hole display instead of the usual and boring waterdrop notch. Realme XT comes with a glass back, but it has a plastic frame and it is not splash resistant. Oppo A9 2020 is entirely made of plastic except for the display. Motorola Moto G8 Power looks the most interesting one due to its aluminum frame and punch-hole display.

Display

The best panel is offered by the Realme XT: it is the only with an AMOLED display boasting more vivid colors and deeper blacks. And it delivers a Full HD+ resolution. The Realme XT even sports an in-display fingerprint reader which is not present on Moto G8 Power and Oppo A9 2020. Moto G8 Power takes the silver medal with a Full HD+ IPS panel. Oppo A9 2020 has a wider display, but it is inferior since it has a lower resolution and a lower level of detail (it is a 720p IPS panel). But this impacts positively on energy consumption.

Specs & Software

Realme XT provides the highest performance thanks to the Snapdragon 712 chipset which is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 710 by Qualcomm. It is also the only with up to 8 GB of RAM, and it features UFS 2.1 internal storage. Oppo A9 2020 comes right after with Snapdragon 665 and up to 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Moto G8 Power has an inferior hardware department, but it is the only to run Android 10 out of the box. On the other hand, Realme XT already received an update to Android 10 in the Indian market.

Camera

Besides having a better hardware side, Realme XT is also the device with the best camera department, although it is not a high-end camera phone. It has a rear quad-camera including a 64 MP main sensor able to shoot very detailed photos. But you should not underestimate the Moto G8 Power as it still comes with a pretty good 16 MP f/1.7 sensor and, unlike the Realme XT, it includes a telephoto lens supporting 2x optical zoom.

Battery

Moto G8 Power and Oppo A9 2020 come with a huge 5000 mAh battery. We believe Oppo A9 2020 will last more on a single charge due to its more efficient display (which comes with a lower resolution). Further, it supports reverse charging and it can be used as a power bank.

Price

Motorola launched the Moto G8 Power with a €249,99/$274 starting price, Oppo A9 2020 starts from €249/$272 and Realme XT starts from €259/$284. Moto G8 Power is a better device when it comes to the build quality, Oppo A9 2020 provides a longer battery life, but Realme XT is what power users would go for due to its AMOLED display and better hardware. There is not a perfect choice for everyone, it mostly depends on what you need more from a phone. That is why we will not pick a definitive winner of this comparison.

The upcoming Motorola Moto G8 Power was listed for a short period on Amazon UK earlier today. Although the retailer was quick to take down the listing, the damage was already done as enthusiastic fans captured screenshots of the device and specifications. The Moto G8 Power is expected to launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020 scheduled to be held in Barcelona, Spain later this month. A separate leak has revealed the live shots of the smartphone.

The Moto G8 Power is rumored to be unveiled alongside the Moto G8 and the G Stylus. The renders of these phones are already available online. According to the live shots and other images that have appeared on Amazon UK,  the Moto G8 Power sports a punch-hole camera at the front. The smartphone flaunts a quad-camera setup at the rear next to the centrally-placed Motorola logo which is embedded with a fingerprint reader. 

The device is water-resistant and can withstand a few raindrops. But users are advised to avoid drowning it in a pool. The retailer listing revealed that it will be available in Smoke Black and Capri Blue color variants.

Moto G8 Power Specifications and Features

The Moto G8 Power Amazon UK listings revealed that it flaunts a 6.36-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. The G8 Power runs on a 2.0 GHz octa-core SoC with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage. Past reports have revealed that it will be driven by the Snapdragon 665 chipset. The same SoC is rumored to power the Moto G8 and Moto G Stylus phones.

The quad-camera setup includes a 16-megapixel primary sensor with an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. The G8 power flaunts a 25-megapixel lens at the front.

Powering the Moto G8 Power is a 5,000 mAh battery. It is said to be arriving with support for 18W fast charging. The smartphone runs on Android 10 and boasts dual speakers. Connectivity options include VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0 USB Type-C, USB OTG, GPS and a 3.5 mm audio port.

Motorola‘s Moto G series is undoubtedly its most popular series. The renders show the Moto G8 models will all pack a full-screen design with a punch-hole screen housing the front camera. The tipster says the renders are for the three models which means they will all have the same design, save for some few differences. The Moto G8 seems to have a slightly bigger chunk of bezel at the chin. All three models feature a punch-hole at the top left corner that houses the selfie shooter. At the rear, the models pack a quad camera setup. A fingerprint sensor seems to be embedded under the logo at the back.

As for the expected specs, the Moto G8 is tipped to come with a 6.39-inch display with support for 720 x 1560 pixels HD+ resolution. The G8 Power could be coming with a 6.36-inch display with support for 1080 x 2300 pixels full HD resolution. Both models are said to be powered by the Snapdragon 665 mobile platform.

On the other hand, the Moto G Stylus will have a 6.36-inch 2300 x 1080 display with a hole in the top left corner for the selfie camera. There will be a Snapdragon 665 processor inside and it will be paired with 64GB or 128GB of storage. The device is said to have a Stylus pen, hence the name.

The G8-series is expected to all run Android 10 out of the box. Motorola is yet to disclose when the models will be launched.

Last week, a press render of a Motorola phone with a stylus was leaked on the web. The phone has been erroneously referred to as the Motorola Edge+, another upcoming Motorola phone, by several publications. Now the same source that revealed the image has revealed the official name of the device.

Popular leaker, Evan Blass (@evleaks) has revealed the Motorola phone with a stylus will launch as the Moto G Stylus. This not only confirms the name but also shows that the phone will belong to the mid-range category. But that is not all there is to know about the device.

The editor-in-chief of XDA Developers,  Mishaal Rahman, did some extra digging and found more details about the phone.

Apparently, the Moto G Stylus has model number XT2043-4. He decided to look it up on the FCC’s database and found out that the phone is codenamed “sofia+”. That codename is similar to that of the Moto G8 Power which is “sofiar”, and thus came to the conclusion that the Moto G Stylus is a variant of the Moto G8 Power.

Using that, I looked it up on the FCC https://t.co/yIaqu9rUoS and identified the phone as code-name "sofia+". This confirms the Moto G Stylus is a variant of the Moto G8 Power, which itself is code-named "sofiar."

Alleged specs of the Moto G8 Power include a 6.36-inch FHD+ display, a Snapdragon 665 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It has also been reported that it will have 16MP quad rear cameras, a 25MP selfie camera, and a 5000mAh battery with support for 18W Turbo Charging. It will also run Android 10 out of the box.

Last year, Motorola had launched the Moto G8 Play and Moto G8 Plus smartphones in October. The other G8-series members had surfaced in multiple leaks but haven’t gone official yet. A fresh leak on XDA Developers has revealed the entire specification of the forthcoming Moto G8 and Moto G8 Power smartphones. The appearance of the new leak indicates that the arrival of the Moto G8 and G8 Power could be close at hand.

The publication has claimed that the Motorola Moto G8 and G8 Power will be arriving with similar design. Hence, both phones will be equipped with single punch-hole displays, fingerprint sensors embedded in the rear-facing company logo and vertical camera setup placed at the top-left corner of the rear shell. There is no information on the pricing of the upcoming G8 phones. However, it is speculated that the Moto G8 could be arriving with a cheaper price tag than the G8 Power.

Moto G8 and Moto G8 Power specifications

The Moto G8 will be arriving with a 6.39-inch display with support for 720 x 1560 pixels HD+ resolution. The G8 Power could be coming with a 6.36-inch display with support for 1080 x 2300 pixels full HD resolution. The Snapdragon 665 mobile platform will be driving both smartphones.

The Moto G8 may come in multiple RAM choices of 2 GB, 3 GB and 4 GB and storage options like 32 GB and 64 GB. The G8 Power could be coming with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The G8 could be housing a 4,000mAh battery with 10W charging. The G8 Power would be continuing the trend of sporting a large-sized battery. It will be arriving with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging.

When it comes to photography, the Moto G8 will be sporting a triple camera setup that will house an f/1.7 aperture 16-megapixel main lens, an f/2.2 aperture 2-megapixel macro lens, an f/2.2 aperture 8-megapixel ultrawide shooter with 118-degree field-of-view. The G8 Power will be equipped with a quad camera setup that will borrow three lenses from G8 and it will feature an additional 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The Moto G8 has a front camera of 8-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture. On the other side, the G8 Power will be flaunting a 25-megapixel selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture.

The Android 10 OS will come preinstalled on the Moto G8 and G8 Power phones.  The Moto G8 will be releasing in North America, Latin America (Mexico), Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The Moto G8 Power will be coming to markets like North America, Latin American regions like Argentina, Costa Rica and Mexico and other international markets.

Motorola will be holding a press event on Feb. 23 to announce its Snapdragon 865 mobile platform driven flagship smartphone. It is speculated that the device could be arriving with Motorola Edge+ moniker. There is no word on whether the Moto G8 and G8 Power will be unveiled at MWC 2020. There is a possibility that the company may hold a dedicated event for the new G8 phones in Brazil soon.

Motorola G8 Power Design and Specifications

Judging from the images, the Moto G8 Power  bears a punch-hole camera on the top left corner of the display. There is no confirmation on whether the G8 Power will really feature a punch-hole screen as some reports have claimed that it will sport a waterdrop notch enabled display. There appears to be a USB (probably microUSB) on the bottom surface alongside the speaker grille, and a 3.5mm headphone port on the top edge.

At the rear, the Moto G8 Power sports a quad-camera setup, complete with an LED flash module. The camera setup is vertically aligned, with the flash alongside the primary lens. There is a cutout for the Motorola logo, which might double us as a fingerprint scanner.

In related news, Motorola has delayed the market release of Motorola Razr 2019. The clamshell foldable phone was expected to go up for pre-orders from Dec. 26 in North America. It was supposed to be released on Jan. 9. The Lenovo-owned company has claimed that the arrival of the device has been delayed due to high demand and supply issues. It has further stated that they “do not anticipate a significant shift from our original availability timeline.”

The upcoming Moto G8 Power has been spotted with its ‘Sofia’ codename on the database of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S for the first time, revealing a few of its key features. The G8 Power (model number XT2041-4) was mentioned alongside a second undisclosed device (model number XT2045-2). The FCC appearance of the G8 Power suggests that its arrival could de drawing near.

Motorola had launched Moto G8 Plus and G8 Play phones few months. Soon after the launch, XDA Developers Editor-in-Chief Mishaal Rahman had revealed about the existence o Moto G8 Power. According to the FCC’s documents, the forthcoming Moto G8 Power (XT2041-4) is mentioned to feature a 5,000mAh battery. The smartphone measures 157.9 x 75.8 mm, while its thickness is not yet known. The device likely flaunts a 6.2-inch or 6.3-inch display.

In the recent past, the Moto G8 Power was spotted during the Wi-Fi Alliance certification. The device runs on Android 10 and supports 5G Wi-Fi and dual-band 2.4G. The Moto G8 Power is likely to feature Snapdragon 665 under the hood. The Moto G8 Plus which launched earlier this year is also equipped with the same chipset.

In related news, the Moto XT2045-2 was also spotted at the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) this year, hinting that the device might launch in 2020. With the advent of the 5G spectrum, numerous smartphone manufacturers were eagerly waiting for Qualcomm to launch its 5G-compliant range of SoCs. With the SD765/765G and SD865 now ready for production, most major players have started announcing their plans for the next year. This list includes Motorola, with its arsenal of 5G smartphones.

Lenovo-owned Motorola is yet to launch a flagship smartphone since 2017. The company is expected to launch an SD865-fueled flagship in 2020, followed by a couple of SD765/765G-powered devices.

Earlier this month, Motorola launched the One Hyper which is an SD675-powered budget device running on Android One edition of Android 10. The One Hyper flaunts a 6.5-inch notch-less IPS LCD display and features 4GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. The device features a 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel rear-mounted dual camera setup, along with a 32-megapixel pop-up selfie camera. It draws power from a 4,000 mAh battery with 45W fast charge support.
