Huawei launched the Nova 12 series in China last month. The Nova 12 Ultra, the flagship model in the series, is now available for purchase in the home market starting today. Here is a look at the specifications and price of the Huawei Nova 12 Ultra.

The Nova 12 Ultra comes in three colors — Black, Blue, and Gray. It’s offered in two storage options: 512GB and 1TB, priced at 4,699 Yuan (approximately 658 USD) and 5,499 Yuan (approximately 769 USD) respectively.

Specifications

The Nova 12 Ultra comes with a 6.76-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. There’s a pill-shaped cutout that accommodates the dual front-facing cameras, and the display is protected by scratch-resistant Kunlun glass. It’s lightweight at 198 grams and slim at 7.68mm.

Powering the device is a Kirin 9000SL chipset paired with 12GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The 9000SL is a 5G chipset meaning you will be able to enjoy 5G network services and the phone also offers satellite connectivity features. Software-wise, it comes with HarmonyOS 4.0 out-of-the-box.

Around the back, the device features a triple camera setup led by a 50MP main sensor. It is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide and a macro scooter. Not to forget, the main camera features a variable aperture (f/1.4 to f/4.0) for improved low-light performance, with 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom capabilities.

The front houses a 60MP ultra-wide angle selfie camera and an 8MP portrait camera, both with autofocus.

Keeping the lights on is a 4600mAh cell that supports 100W fast charging. Other features include an in-display fingerprint sensor, dual SIM support, gesture navigation, face unlock, Bluetooth 5.2, and various audio codecs.

Huawei has just announced the latest Nova series of smartphones in its home market of China. The lineup consists of the Nova 12, Nova 12 Lite, Nova 12 Pro, and Nova 12 Ultra. Now, here’s a detailed breakdown of the higher end Pro and Ultra models of the series. So let’s have a look at their specs, design, pricing, and more.

The Nova 12 Ultra and the Nova 12 Pro feature a curved display on the front, while the rear features the familiar pill shaped camera island. The front and back have rounded corners and curved edges. The Nova 12 Ultra weighs 198 grams, while the Nova 12 Pro weighs 201 grams. Although, the two devices measure equal in width at just 7.68mm.

On the front, Huawei outfits the Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra with a tall 6.76-inch OLED display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution (2776 x 1224). The screen also has a pill shaped camera cutout that houses the two front facing image sensors. Notably, the Ultra model comes with Kunlus glass, which it claims to be “unbreakable“.

The Nova 12 Ultra and 12 Pro are quite similar but some of their differences include the chipsets. The former is equipped with the Kirin 9000SL while the latter houses a Kirin 8000. These chipsets support 5G networking and are paired with 12GB of RAM. The Pro model offers up to 512GB of RAM and the Ultra tops out at a sizeable 1TB. The lineup runs on HarmonyOS 4.0 (HongMengOS in China) out of the box.

The two phones are powered by a 4,600mAh battery pack that supports 100W wired fast charging. A notable feature that arrives in the Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra is the support for satellite connectivity, which is a common feature for newer high end devices. Other notable features include an in-display fingerprint scanner, dual SIM support, Gesture navigation, face unlock, Bluetooth 5.2, AAC, SBC, and LDAC audio codec.

Camera

The camera system is practically identical on both smartphones. On the rear, the Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra has a 50-megapixel primary camera, which is paired with an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens and a macro shooter. The primary camera has a variable aperture that can change from f/1.4 to f/4.0. This enables a 2x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. Meanwhile, the front houses a 60-megapixel main ultra wide angle selfie shooter and an 8-megapixel portrait camera. The wide angle sensor has an f/2.4 aperture and auto focus support and the portrait sensor has an f/2.2 aperture and also supports auto focus.

Pricing and Availability

The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra and Nova 12 Pro were announced in multiple color options, namely White, Black, Pink, and Blue for the Pro and Black, Blue, and Gray for the Ultra. They were also announced in two storage configurations each. The Nova 12 Ultra has a starting price tag of 4,699 Yuan (roughly 658 US Dollars) for the 512GB model, while the 1TB variant costs 5,499 Yuan (roughly 769 US Dollars).

The Nova 12 Pro has a 3,999 Yuan (roughly 560 US Dollars) price tag for the 256GB model, while the 512GB option costs 4,399 Yuan (roughly 615 US Dollars). Both models are currently listed for pre-orders, with the first sale of both devices set to go live on the morning of 12th January 2024.

In a new Weibo post, tipster Digital Chat Station mentioned the key specifications of the Nova 12 Ultra. Here is a look at what to expect from the device.

According to DCS, the Nova 12 Ultra will have an OLED panel that offers a 1.5K resolution. While it is not mentioned in the leak, it appears that it may support up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The leaker’s aforementioned image provides the first look at the quad-curved display design, which also includes a pill-shaped cutout for the dual selfie camera setup.

The Nova 12 Ultra’s front camera setup is tipped to feature a 64-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel portrait lens that supports 2x optical zoom. On the back panel, the device will have a 50-megapixel primary snapper backed by a 1/1.55-inch camera sensor offering f/1.4–f/4.0 physically variable aperture. The Huawei Nova 12 series is launching in China on December 26 — this Tuesday. We are expecting a total of four devices — Nova 12 Lite, Nova 12, Nova 12 Pro, and Nova 12 Ultra. Only a few days ahead of the launch, an online listing has now revealed the prices for all the models except the base Nova 12 Lite.

The listing reveals that the standard Nova 12 will start at 3299 Yuan, while the Nova 12 Pro will begin at 4499 Yuan. And the top-of-the-line Nova 12 Ultra carries a price tag of 5499 Yuan. These prices are likely for the base storage options, with higher configurations potentially costing more.

Furthermore, real-life images of the Nova 12 Ultra and Pro models have also been circulating on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. The images show the Nova 12 Ultra sporting a luxurious leather or glass back design.

The leather version of the Nova 12 Ultra stands out with a unique design that features embossed “nova” branding on the back. And, if you look closely, you’ll notice that the leather design also extends to cover the entire camera module.

Meanwhile, the Nova 12 Pro can also be seen in its purple color with a camera design similar to the Ultra model.

Going by rumors so far, both the Nova 12 Pro and 12 Ultra are expected to feature a 5G-enabled Kirin 9000s chipset. It’s the same SoC that is present under the hood of the Mate 60 lineup. There’s also speculation that the Ultra variant may support two-way satellite communications.

Moreover, both devices are expected to come with a curved OLED display with a 1.5K resolution. On December 26, Huawei will launch the Nova 12 series of smartphones in China. The series will consist of the Huawei Nova 12 Lite (Vitality Edition), Nova 12, Nova 12 Pro, and Nova 12 Ultra. Following leaks and rumors, the new smartphone is officially teased to come in three color options: Signature Blue, White, and Black. Along with the colors, the new posters showcase the camera module consisting of three camera sensors and an LED flash. Precisely, the posters reveal the presence of a 50 MP RYYB primary sensor offering a physical aperture from f/1.0 to f/4.0.The “Nova” engraving on the leather rear side of the smartphone is quite evident.

Previous reports suggest that the Huawei Nova 12 will feature a flat LCD protected by Huawei Kunlun glass. It may ship with Huawei’s own Kirin 830 or Kirin 9000s SOC. There will be a 45,000 mAh battery with 66W fast charging support. It could debut in two storage options, 12+256Gb and 12+512GB for the price of 2,999 Yuan and 3,499 Yuan, respectively. However, the battery remains the same with improved 100W charging on the Pro variant, but there will be a 2nd Gen Kunlun Glass which could bring a new OV50H primary sensor.

Huawei Nova 12 Ultra could also come with 2nd generation Kunlun glass protection and 100W charging. However, details about the battery capacity are not yet available to us. A recent leak suggests that it would feature the Kirin 9000 SoC, which was the newly launched Huawei Mate 60 flagship series. The smartphone seems to feature a 12 GB + 512 GB version, which will retail for 4,999 yuan.

Huawei Nova 12 Lite is also expected to come with a Kirin 9000s SoC and will feature the same 50MP primary rear sensor. Other details are currently not available.

Huawei recently confirmed that the Nova 12 series of smartphones will be announced on Dec. 26 in China. Interested customers can currently place pre-orders for the devices through Huawei JD.com’s official flagship store. The listing confirms that the pre-sale of the Nova 12 lineup will begin at 16:08pm (local time) on Dec. 26 in China. Following a strategy similar to the Huawei Mate 60 series, the Nova 12 series will be part of the Pioneer Plan, allowing users to reserve their devices ahead of the official release date.
