The company unveiled a number of new models in the nova 5 lineup, including the new nova 5i pro that was launched alongside the Mate 20 X 5G smartphone a few days back. Now, Huawei has announced that the nova 5 sales have exceeded 2 million units in just a month.

At present, Nova 5 has four models. The first three models, Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro, and Nova 5i, were announced in the later half of June. They were joined by a new model, the Nova 5i Pro, a few days back. It’s not surprising to see these models do well in the Chinese market as the nova lineup has managed to carve out a special fan following among the youth.

Its predecessor, the Nova 3 series also sold more than 2 million units in a month of its launch. In fact, by the end of 2018, Huawei revealed that it had sold more than 65 million nova smartphones since 2016. In order to commemorate 2 million sales of the new nova 5 series, the company has announced a special ‘Coral orange’ Limited Gift Box set for Nova 5 Pro as well.

Note that nova 5 models are still limited to the Chinese market.

Also, the Nova 5i Pro was also listed with some images on the Chinese retailer site. However, when the company had launched the Nova 5 series on June 21, it only unveiled phones like Nova 5, Nova 5 Pro and Nova 5i. Since the company did not announce Nova 5i Pro, it appeared that the device does not exist. Reliable tipster Evan Blass has shared a schematic of the unreleased Nova5i Pro which not only suggests that it exists, but also reveals that it will be sporting a different design from what was seen on its JD.com listing.

The following image was found on the JD.com listing of the Nova 5i Pro. The handset features a wide notch, a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a vertical dual camera setup with an LED flash. The design actually matches with the Nova 3iv smartphone from last year.

Editor’s Pick: Huawei reportedly looking to turn to Russia’s Aurora OS as Android’s replacement

However, the image shared by Blass shows the Nova 5i Pro flaunting a unique appeal. The smartphone can be seen with the trendier punch-hole display design with a slightly thick chin. The rest of the bezels of the smartphone are slimmer. The recently announced Nova 5i also features a punch-hole display. The top edge of the Nova 5i Pro has an earpiece. A volume rocker and a power key are available on the right spine of the Nova 5i Pro. Its left edge seems to feature a slot for the SIM card tray.

The bottom edge of the Nova 5i Pro in the new schematic shows the presence of a USB port (probably, USB-C) and a 3.5mm audio jack. There is a square-shaped camera module on the upper half of the Nova 5i Pro’s rear shell. An LED flash is placed alongside it and a fingerprint placed below it.

The Nova 5i comes with 6.4-inch display, Kirin 710 chipset, 6 GB / 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, 16-megapixel quad camera, 16-megapixel selfie camera and 4,000mAh battery. If Nova 5i Pro truly exists, it will certainly arrive with better specs than the Nova 5i. Hopefully, more details of the phone may appear in the coming days.

The new chipset will power the Nova 5 and will be Huawei’s second 7nm chipset. An AI benchmark result has surfaced and it shows the Kirin 810 is a beast.

AI Benchmark 3 not only reveals how well the chipset performs in AI-related tasks compared to others but also provides some key details about the chipset itself. First, it confirms the Nova 5 is powered by the Kirin 810 as you can see in the first image below.

A top Huawei executive has just confirmed that the Chinese giant will also unveil its second 7nm chipset on that day.

He Gang, the president of Huawei’s consumer mobile business unit took to Weibo to announce that Huawei will be the first mobile phone company with two 7nm SoC chips. He confirmed that the new SoC will be unveiled in Wuhan on June 21.

While he didn’t reveal the name of the processor, previous leaks have said it is the HiSilicon Kirin 810 processor. The Kirin 810 is the successor to the 12nm Kirin 710 and will appear first in the Nova 5. There isn’t much info about the SoC yet but it is said to be built on TSMC’s 7nm node. It has also been reported to feature Huawei’s own in-house NPU and that the difference in performance between it and the flagship Kirin 980 won’t be too big.

Huawei’s Kirin 810 chipset is set to take on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 700 series. The most powerful Snapdragon 700 series processor at the moment is the Snapdragon 730G and it is an 8nm chipset. The Kirin 810 already has the edge when it comes to power efficiency since it has a smaller node size.

Apart from the Nova 5, the Kirin 810 has also been reported to be the chipset inside the upcoming Honor 9X Pro.

The 32-megapixel selfie snapper of the Huawei Nova 5 series will be equipped with super night scene photography mode. It means whether its day or night, the 32-megapixel front camera of Nova 5 series will capture brighter shots.

It will be releasing in two models in the home market such as 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. The smartphone will be available in colors like green, black, purple and orange.

Speculations are rife that the Nova 5 Pro could be equipped with a full HD+ 6.39-inch AMOLED display with in-screen fingerprint senor. The Kirin 980 chipset could be present under the hood of the device. It could be fueled by a 3,500mAh battery with support for 40W rapid charging for the Nova 5 Pro. The rear shell of the phone will be equipped with a quad camera setup that will include a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 2-megapixel ToF sensor.

The Nova 5i smartphone with model number GLK-AL00 / TL00 has already been certified by TENAA through which its entire specifications have been leaked. It will be equipped with a full HD+ 6.4-inch IPS LCD display with punch-hole design. It is expected to house a 4,000mAh battery. It will be driven by 2.0 GHz octa-core processor.

The 6 GB and 8 GB RAM editions of the smartphone are expected to be equipped with 128 GB of native storage. The back panel of the phone will be featuring 24-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad camera setup. It will have a front-facing snapper of 24-megapixel. Hence, it appears that not all the phones in the Nova 5 series will have a 32-megapixel front camera.

The Android 9 Pie OS with the latest EMUI version will be available on the device. Other features of the phone include microSD card slow and rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Some reports have claimed that it may not arrive in market as Nova 5i, but as Nova 5. Also, it could be the first phone to feature the upcoming Kirin 810 chipset. However, there is no official information available on the existence of the Kirin 810. There seems to be another Nova 5 series called Nova 5i Pro. However, its specs are not known yet.

The latest is a couple of live photos of the Nova 5. But that isn’t the exciting part, the source of the images has also revealed a key spec about the phone.

According to @RODENT950, the Nova 5 will be powered by the Kirin 810. This is a processor that is yet to be unveiled and definitely the literal successor to the Kirin 710. He adds that the new chipset is actually a 7nm premium mid-range SoC that will take on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 730.

Nova 5i Kirin 710
Nova 5 Kirin 810
Nova 5Pro Kirin 980

This is exciting news as the Kirin 710 is overdue for a successor but it also means Huawei may still be following its tradition of releasing just one mid-range SoC per year. This new chipset will most likely be the one that will power future Huawei and Honor mid-range and upper mid-range phones for the next 1 year or thereabout.

Editor’s Pick: Huawei labels report that it has reduced smartphones production as False!

We have no idea when the processor will be unveiled but if it doesn’t get a separate launch before next week, that means it will be unveiled at the Nova 5 launch.

The tweet also says the Nova 5i will come with the Kirin 710 while the Nova 5 Pro will be powered by the flagship Kirin 980.

[envira-gallery id=”259028″]

With respect to the images of the Nova 5, we can see it will also have quad rear cameras like the Nova 5i. Three of the sensors are stacked vertically while the fourth one sits separately on the right in a similar design to that of the Honor 20.

There is no fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone which is covered in glass. There doesn’t seem to be an indentation on the side which rules out a side-mounted scanner and leaves us with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Huawei will announce the Nova 5 series on June 21. It has also been reported that the MediaPad m6 tablet will also be announced at the event.

Last year, Huawei had launched Nova 3 and Nova 3i smartphones. Hence, the rumor mill has been speculating that the upcoming Nova 5 series will include Nova 5 and Nova 5i smartphones. However, a recent leak had revealed that one of the upcoming Nova 5 series phones could be called Nova 5 Pro. Earlier today, the case renders of the Nova 5 Pro were spotted online. A major leak from MySmartPrice has revealed the renders, storage and color variants of Huawei Nova 5 Pro.

As it can be seen in the below images, the Nova 5 Pro will be releasing in four color options such as Green, Purple, Orange and Black. Since Nova 5i smartphone features a punch-hole display, it was being speculated that the Nova 5 could be also sporting a display with similar appeal. However, the leaked renders have revealed that the Nova 5 Pro will be featuring a display with waterdrop-style notch.

Moving to the rear side of the phone, the Nova 5 Pro features a vertically arranged three camera sensors and LED flash at the top-left corner. The other sensor that is placed alongside the three cameras could be a ToF (Time of Flight) 3D sensor. The rear side of the phone lacks a fingerprint scanner. The symbol of the fingerprint on the display is a clear indication that the Nova 5 Pro will be equipped with an in-display fingerprint reader.

Recently, a new Huawei phone with model numbers SEA-AL10 and SEA-TL10 was approved by the TENAA authority. It is speculated that SEA-AL10 / TL10 is a Nova series flagship smartphone – the Nova 5 Pro. The specifications and images of the phone haven’t yet appeared on TENAA. However, XDA Developers editor Mishaal Rahman had revealed in the previous month that the handset will be sporting a 6.39-inch AMOLED display that will produce full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. It may come with a 3,500mAh battery that will carry support for 40W fast charging. For shooting selfies, it may feature a 25-megapixel front camera. Its quad camera setup may include 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 as primary sensor.

At the same time, the GLK-AL00 and GLK-TL00 Chinese variants of the Nova 5i have been spotted on the database of the 3C authority of China.

According to EEC certification, the Nova 5 has a model number of SEA-LX1 whereas the Nova 5i has a model number of GLK-LX1U. The EEC approval of these smartphones hasn’t revealed any information on their specifications. The 3C listing of the Nova 5i reveals that it may come with a 10W charger. This suggests that the Nova 5i could be a mid-range phone with Kirin 710 and it may lack support for fast charging. Nothing else is known about the Nova 5i smartphone.

Recently, XDA’s Mishaal Rahman had revealed some details of the upcoming Kirin 980 SoC powered phones from the company. He had revealed that the SEA-AL10 and SEA-TL10 that are nothing but Chinese editions of the Nova 5 will be arriving with a full HD+ AMOLED display of 6.39 inches. In December 2018, Huawei had released the Nova 4 as its first smartphone with a punch-hole display. There is no confirmation on whether the upcoming Nova 5 will be also equipped with the same display design.

The Huawei Nova 5 could be arriving with a Sony IMX576 25-megapixel selfie camera. It is expected to come packed with a 3,500mAh battery. The rear shell of the phone could be featuring a triple camera system that may include a Sony IMX380 12.3-megapixel lens, a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel lens and a Sony IMX316 ToF sensor.

The images had revealed that the case does not feature a cutout for a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Considering the fact that the phone is coming with an AMOLED display, it could be featuring an in-screen fingerprint reader. There is also a possibility that the Nova 5 may arrive with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
