<p>The info was confirmed by OnePlus in a press briefing (Via <a href="https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-9t-officially-canceled/"><em>XDA Developers</em></a>) detailing its plans for the future. The source reports that OnePlus added that, while there will be no T-variants of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, there will be other releases.</p>
<p>A leak <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/08/19/oneplus-9-rt-is-coming-with-oxygenos-12-in-q4-two-new-nord-phones-too/">revealed in August that OnePlus will launch a T-variant</a> of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-9r/">OnePlus 9R</a> and it will launch as the OnePlus 9RT/OnePlus 9 RT. The source also mentioned that there will be two new Nord phones too. The OnePlus 9 RT is rumored to be <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/14/oneplus-9-rt-launch-date-tipped/">scheduled for an October 15 release</a>.</p>
<p>Alleged specs of the OnePlus 9 RT mention the phone will have a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a higher-binned version of the Snapdragon 870 chipset that powers the OnePlus 9R, a Sony IMX766 50MP main camera, a 4500mAh battery, and support for 65W fast charging. It should also have an in-display fingerprint scanner</p>
<p>It has also been reported that it will launch with <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oxygenos-12">OxygenOS 12</a> based on <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/android-12">Android 12</a> out of the box. The new version of OxygenOS will come with new features such as a redesigned UI, floating windows, improved privacy settings, a theme store, and a digital safe for storing sensitive data.</p>

<p>The tweet from the company showcases a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-9/">OnePlus 9</a> smartphone that is placed in tea. Along with the image, the text shared by the company reads: &#8220;Don&#8217;t read too much into it.&#8221; But on first look, the &#8216;tea&#8217; in the photo could be for the &#8216;T&#8217; in the OnePlus 9T smartphone.</p>

<p>&mdash; OnePlus (@oneplus) <a href="https://twitter.com/oneplus/status/1425435845809434625?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 11, 2021</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>Earlier, a report claimed that OnePlus has canceled the T-suffix smartphone of its flagship lineup this year, and thus, the OnePlus 9T smartphone <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/27/tipster-there-will-not-be-a-oneplus-9t-this-year/">won&#8217;t get launched</a>. If the company is planning to launch it, then the timing for the teaser is apt if the launch is set for the month of September or October.</p>
<p>The reason behind the rumored cancellation of the OnePlus 9T has not been revealed yet. It could be because of the global shortage of chips due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the issue isn&#8217;t expected to get resolved anytime soon.</p>
<p>If that&#8217;s the case, the OnePlus 9T isn&#8217;t the first smartphone to get canceled. South Korean giant Samsung has already <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/17/no-new-galaxy-note-this-year-confirms-samsung-ceo/">canceled the Galaxy Note 21</a> this year, saying that it could be a burden to launch two flagships in a year so it might be difficult to release the Note series model in the second half of this year.</p>
<p>Replacing the Note-series models this year is the third generation of the flagship smartphones from the South Korean company &#8212; Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3. Several phone launches were been pushed back, including the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/google-pixel-4a-5g/">Google Pixel 4a</a> and the Apple iPhone 12 series. The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/25/samsung-galaxy-s21-fe-delayed-until-october-limited-to-only-2-regions/">has also been delayed</a> and the reason is said to be the chip shortage issue.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">If OnePlus releases a T series device this year, it would be most likely called </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus-9T/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus 9T</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. This so-called handset is being </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/03/oneplus-9t-with-coloros-11-108mp-quad-cameras-may-arrive-in-q3/"><span style="font-weight: 400">rumored</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> for the past few weeks. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">But now, as per Max Jambor, a well-known leaker, OnePlus will not be launching the OnePlus 9T this year. Unfortunately, his </span><a href="https://twitter.com/MaxJmb/status/1419959757453107222"><span style="font-weight: 400">short tweet</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> does not mention the reason.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Since OnePlus is known for making announcements before the launch or cancellation of any product, we expect the brand to reveal why it isn’t releasing the OnePlus 9T. But anyway, like always, the company won’t be giving a straightforward answer.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">We think the cancellation of the OnePlus 9T could be due to the shortage of semiconductors, especially the flagship </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/03/snapdragon-888-detailed-specifications-officially-confirmed/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Qualcomm Snapdragon 888</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. The upcoming Galaxy S21 FE is also delayed because of the same reason.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyway, it also makes sense for the brand to not release another high-end device in the second half of the year since there aren’t any huge improvements when compared to the models released in the first half. Hence, there was no OnePlus 8T Pro last year as opposed to the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-7t-pro/"><span style="font-weight: 400">OnePlus 7T Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> a year prior.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Maybe, the company will quietly discontinue the OnePlus T series next year. That said, what are your thoughts on this situation? Do let us know in the comment section below.</span></p>

Recently, a leaker claimed that the company will not be launching the OnePlus 9T Pro alongside the 9T handset. Fresh information shared by another tipster reveals that the OnePlus 9T may ship with ColorOS 11.</p>
<p><a href="https://twitter.com/imailisa0825/status/1411014410877890561">According to the tipster</a>, the OnePlus 9T 5G will be launching in Q3 and it will be running on ColorOS 11. He added that the phone will be sporting a 108-megapixel Hasselblad quad-camera system. He also claimed that there will not be a Pro model for the 9T. While the OP9T may arrive with ColorOS 11 in China, it is not clear whether the global edition will also feature the OPPO&#8217;s custom skin. Hence, it is advised to digest the new leak with a pinch of salt.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/02/oneplus-9t-display-specs-leak/">A recent leak claimed</a> that the OnePlus 9T will be sporting an LTPO Samsung E4 flexible AMOLED screen that offers a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/28/snapdragon-888-plus-5g-arrives-with-a-higher-clock-speed-and-better-ai-performance/">Qualcomm recently announced</a> the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888-plus">Snapdragon 888+</a> chip that offers faster clocking speeds than the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888">Snapdragon 888</a>. It was also revealed that the SD888+ will be used by brands like ROG (ASUS), Honor, Motorola, Vivo, and Xiaomi in the future. Since OnePlus was not mentioned, it is likely that it will settle for the Snapdragon 888 SoC for the 9T.</p>

In other words, the panel on this phone will be able to refresh as low as 1Hz like the screen on the OnePlus 9 Pro, the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Galaxy S21 Ultra</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, and the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Galaxy Note 20 Ultra</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Further, the leaker says that there won’t be a OnePlus 9T Pro this year. Hence, the OnePlus 9 Pro should continue as the brand&#8217;s main flagship smartphone until the release of the OnePlus 10 Pro or whatever it will be called.</span></p>

<p>While the OnePlus smartphones are widely appreciated, its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/flagship-smartphones">flagship phones</a> have mostly been criticized for the camera department, which has not been able to match the performance offered by its competitors. But now that is about to change this year.</p>
<figure id="attachment_362387" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-362387" style="width: 1440px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-362387 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4.jpg?x10805" alt="OnePlus 9" width="1440" height="950" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4.jpg 1440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4-1068x705.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/oneplus-9-4-637x420.jpg 637w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-362387" class="wp-caption-text">OnePlus 9 Concept Render</figcaption></figure>
<p>OnePlus CEO <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/pete-lau">Pete Lau</a> has taken to Weibo to say that the company is investing heavily in cameras this year and is aiming to be a leader in this department. While nothing much is known about this, it&#8217;s likely that the company will be focusing more on the software part.</p>
<p>Given that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-9">OnePlus 9 series</a> is all set to launch in the coming months, we don&#8217;t expect to see huge improvements in terms of camera performance because of this new investment from the company. However, the OnePlus 9T series, which will launch in the second half of this year, is expected to have improved camera technology.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> </strong><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/08/apple-car-huyndai-motor-production/"><strong>Hyundai Motor confirmed to be in talks with Apple for the production of Apple Car</strong></a></p>
<p>OnePlus is also reportedly <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/17/leaker-reveals-oneplus-will-partner-with-leica-for-oneplus-9-series-camera/">partnering with lens maker Leica</a>, which has been collaborating with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a>. This could be what the company needs given that Huawei&#8217;s flagship smartphones have always been a leader in terms of camera performance.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the upcoming OnePlus 9 series is expected to offer three devices &#8212; OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and OnePlus 9 SE (or 9 Lite). This time, the company is also going to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/24/oneplus-9-battery-charging-features-leaked/">offer wireless charging</a> and reverse wireless charging among other premium features.</p>
