The OnePlus Nord 2 is the latest phone from the Nord series and the successor to the very first OnePlus Nord phone announced last year. The new phone, which is the first OnePlus phone to be powered by a MediaTek processor, brings significant upgrades to most areas and also rocks a new design.

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G still has a flat display with a punch hole in front but the hole is smaller now as it only houses one camera. The back is where the main changes are. The camera housing has been redesigned and looks more like that of the OnePlus 9 series.

It also comes in three new colors – Gray Sierra with a matte finish, Blue Haze, and Green Wood which is exclusive to India. Unfortunately, OnePlus didn’t announce the red variant that appeared in a leak earlier this week. This color variant may be announced later for Europe and the UK.

OnePlus Nord 2 Specifications

The OnePlus Nord 2 has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a punch hole for a camera at the top left corner.

The phone is powered by the Dimensity 1200-AI, a special version of the Dimensity 1200 developed by MediaTek and OnePlus. Buyers will be able to purchase the OnePlus Nord 2 in three configurations – 6+12GB, 8+128GB, and 12+256GB. There is no storage expansion slot.

The cameras have been upgraded. The main sensor is the 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor with OIS and it is paired with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera with EIS and a 2MP mono lens. The front-facing camera is a 32MP Sony IMX615.

The Dimensity 1200-AI helps improve photos and videos with features such as AI Photo Enhancements and AI video Enhancement. There is also Dual View Video which allows you to record from both sides of the phone at the same time. The AI Chipset brings a feature called AI Color Boost which takes videos from YouTUbe, VLC, and MX Player and converts them into more vivid colors.

The OnePlus Nord 2 5G has dual 5G SIM card slots NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6. There are stereo speakers but no audio jack. The Nord 2 packs a 4500mAh battery under the hood and has support for 65W Warp Charge. There is a new haptic engine called Haptics 2.0 which should provide users with a smoother and more tactile experience when typing or playing a game. You also get an in-display fingerprint scanner.

OnePlus ships the phone with OxygenOS 11.3 based on Android 11. The new version of OxygenOS comes with new features such as a  dark mode for the new OnePlus Games app. Another new feature called Game Filters adds screen filters such as Dark Correction and Night Vision to your games. Out of the box, this feature only works with PUBG Mobile. There is also added support for Discord so you can send messages to your opponents and friends. OnePlus reiterates that the phone will receive two OS upgrades and three years of security updates.
