Last month, OnePlus Nord N100 received the OxygenOS 10.5.6/10.5.8 update with the February 2021 security patch. Now, the affordable OnePlus smartphone is getting a new update in North America and EU regions.

The OnePlus Nord N100 is getting an OTA(Over The Air) OxygenOS 10.5.7 and 10.5.9 update in regions where it is sold, i.e, the NA and Europe respectively. You can take a look at the firmware versions below:

• NA – OxygenOS 10.5.7 – 10.5.7.BE81AA
• EU – OxygenOS 10.5.9 – 10.5.9.BE83BA​

The changelog doesn’t detail the improvements/changes that are coming to the device. Rather, it says that the device will get the March 2021 security patch.

In the last update, OnePlus said that it had improved the standby power consumption in certain scenarios in addition to fixing the Known issues. However, the latest update shows that the company has once again fixed known issues in addition to improving the system stability.

The OnePlus Nord N10 5G is the brand’s cheapest 5G smartphone. It is also the company’s second most affordable handset. Now, it has started receiving OxygenOS 10.5.9 with January 2021 security patch ahead of expensive models.

OnePlus is known for its OxygenOS operating system and regular timely updates. Unfortunately, these two most favored qualities of the brand began to degrade over the past few months. 

The Chinese smartphone maker’s OS is full of issues, as per multiple users on the OnePlus community, social media, and other forums. Similarly, the firm has now become slower in delivering updates as its portfolio has increased.

OnePlus 8 series launched in April is receiving July 2020 security patch worldwide. The update is being rolled out to all the variants of OnePlus 8/8Pro except carrier-locked versions. The OTA update also adds support for the company’s upcoming OnePlus Buds TWS.

OnePlus is currently rolling out OxygenOS 10.5.8/10.5.9/10.5.10 to OnePlus 8/8 Pro users worldwide. Despite being different build versions for various regions, they come with a common changelog. This new system update is all about fixes and optimizations for a number of things including the infamous “photochrom filter”.

The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a fourth color filter camera. This sensor is capable of seeing through thin plastics and clothes. It can be accessed by using the “photochrom filter” in the OnePlus Camera app.

Due to the concerns raised by the public, the company disabled this filter temporarily and has been even selling the Indian units without this filter. 

Though the “photochrom filter” was added back in June as promised, now, with the latest update,  it no longer uses the color filter sensor. Because the company has now implemented this filter on the ultra-wide camera. Hence, users cannot see through thin plastics and clothes anymore.

But now, a big question arises as noted by XDA Developers. If this feature is possible without the color filter sensor, then why include it in the first place?

OnePlus, in a statement to Android Police, said it had accidentally rolled out the OxygenOS 10.5.9 update, which temporarily removes the photochrom filter on OnePlus 8 Pro global units. A small set of users who have installed the update will be receiving a new OTA to re-enable the filter.

OnePlus 8 Pro became a victim of controversy because of its color filter camera which is capable of seeing through thin plastics and clothes. To this, the company responded by saying it will disable the ‘Photochrom / Autumn filter’ in HydrogenOS for Chinese users but will not make any change in OxygenOS for global customers. However, OnePlus has now temporarily removed the filter on all the variants of the device with the latest update.

OnePlus is currently rolling out OxygenOS 10.5.9 OTA update to all the global variants of OnePlus 8 Pro. The changelog of the update mentions the temporary removal of photochrom filter for adjustment. Also, it reads the filter will come back in June but does not provide any specific details on when it will be added again.

The new OxgenOS 10.5.9 for OnePlus 8 Pro weighs 157MB and comes with the following changelog.

  • Photochrome filter temporarily removed for adjustment. The feature is expected to come back around June, but exact time is subject to the latest official announcement.

Having said that, it is interesting of OnePlus to disable the filter on global versions of OnePlus 8 Pro running OxygenOS although it made an announcement clearly stating it won’t. We expect the company to soon make a post on OnePlus Community explaining this.
