Xiaomi India launches Redmi Smart Band as its first fitness tracker in the country for the year 2020. It is priced at ₹1,599 ($22) and will be available starting September 9 at 1 PM from Xiaomi online store (Mi.com), Mi Home retail stores, Mi Studios, Amazon India, and partner retailers.

The Redmi Smart Band aka Redmi Band features a 1.08-inch 16-bit color TFT LCD panel with 128 x 200 pixels and support for touch input. The screen’s maximum brightness is rated at 200 nits, which is less compared to Mi Smart Band 4’s 400 nits. 

Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the Redmi-branded fitness tracker is priced lower than the company’s flagship Mi-branded fitness trackers. Hence, it lacks some features like 3-axis gyroscope and comes with a slightly smaller 130mAh battery (compared to 135mAh unit in Mi Band 4), which the brand claims to offer 14-day battery life.

On the plus side, the Redmi Smart Band is the first Xiaomi wearable to come with direct USB charging. But it is still 5 ATM water-resistant and includes 3-axis accelerometer and PPG heart-rate sensor.

Redmi Band first debuted in China in the month of April. Later, it was made available as Mi Smart Band 4C in Europe and other regions. Now, it will be launching as Redmi Smart Band in India on September 8 at 12 PM.

The Redmi Band is the first and the only fitness tracker from Xiaomi to feature direct USB charging. Also, it happens to be the first to sport a 1.08-inch color (16-bit) TFT  LCD panel with 128 x 200 pixels and touch input. Another first is that it is boxy in design unlike curvy Mi Bands.

The display brightness of Mi Band 4 maxes at 400 nits but the panel on Redmi Smart Band can only go up to 200 nits. Due to the type of its display, the company claims only 14 days of battery life from its 130mAh battery. For comparison, the Mi Smart Band 4 features a 135mAh battery and is rated to run for 20 days on a single charge.

Apart from the above-mentioned differences, it is identical to Mi Band 4 (aka Mi Smart Band 4) in terms of functionalities. That means it includes optical heart rate sensor and 3-axis accelerometer (but no 3-axis gyroscope) to monitor fitness activities. It is even water-resistant up to 5ATM pressure.

Talking bout compatibility, it can be paired with both Android smartphones and Apple iPhones via Bluetooth 5.0 using the Mi Fit app. Last but not least, it should cost around ₹1,500 in India.

The Mi Smart Band 5 is expected to launch soon as a global version of the Mi Band 5 that is already sold in China. However, we may be getting another Mi Band 4 first. Actually, the Mi Band 4C. The device has been listed on the Malaysian online store, Shopee.

The Mi Smart Band 4C is expected to be a rebadged Redmi Band. So, save for the change in name, the two smartbands should be the same. There is no official listing of the fitness tracker on the Xiaomi Malaysia website neither is there any mention of it on its social media channels. So the only listing we have seen is on Shopee Mall.

The listing uses product images of the Redmi Band. It says the band has a 1.08-inch TFT color display with a 128 x 220 resolution and screen brightness up to 220 nits. There is a 130mAh battery inside it and will last up to 14 days on a single charge. It doesn’t need a cable to charge like its other siblings. All you have to do is plug one of its ends into the USB-A port of a charger, power bank, or PC. Charging time is stated to be 2 hours.

The Mi Band 4C can track five sports including outdoor running, cycling, and indoor running. It also has a heart rate sensor, sleep tracking, and a sedentary reminder. Other features are music playback control, apps and call notifications, and water resistance up to 5ATM.

The Shopee listing says the Mi Band 4C will sell for RM 99 (~$23) and is only available in black. Unfortunately, it is currently listed as out of stock.

We usually compare smartphones, but fitness wearables became a so important niche that we think it is worth comparing the best-selling and value for money wearables actually available. I am not a fan of the design of the Redmi Band. It has a completely flat glass above the display, it looks cheaper and more outdated. Xiaomi Mi Band 4 and Honor Band 5 are definitely more elegant, with the first boasting the most harmonious aesthetics, at least according to my opinion. Further, with the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, you get more choices if you want to get a third-party strap. All of these smart bands are waterproof up to 5 atm, so you can use them while swimming.

Software and features

Despite they are very affordable, these wearables pack a lot of features in their software department. They can monitor several activities, they got an accurate heart rate sensor, and they can manage notifications from your phone. The most advanced one in terms of features is the Honor Band 5 since, besides the classic sensors and features you can find in all of these smart bands, it also features a SpO2 sensor to monitor blood oxygen saturation. A great feature for those who climb to high altitudes and those suffering from hypoxia, just to take two examples. Honor Band 5 also comes in a version with NFC connectivity for mobile payments, as well as Xiaomi Mi Band 4 in the Chinese market. Last but not least, Honor Band 5 supports more sports modes: you can monitor up to 10 activities, while Redmi Band and Xiaomi Mi Band 4 stop at 5 and 6, respectively. While Honor Band 5 offers more features, we think Xiaomi Mi Band 4 offers a better experience with the companion app thanks to Xiaomi Mi Fit.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi Band 4 wins the battery life comparison as it can last up to 20 days on a single charge, while Redmi Band and Honor Band 5 last up to 14 days. But if you choose the Redmi Band, you get an important advantage: you can charge it without needing a custom charging adapter. In order to charge the Redmi Band, you just need to remove a part of the strap and connect the wearable to a USB-A port. A full charge of these smart bands takes about two hours.

Price

The Redmi Band is priced CNY 99 in China. Honor Band 5 has a starting price of CNY 190 (the variant with NFC costs CNY 220), while Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is priced CNY 169. The Redmi Band is the most affordable smart band of the trio, but it is inferior to both Xiaomi Mi Band 4 and Honor Band 5. The Honor Band 5 actually comes with more features, but the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 has a companion app that we define more advanced. Which one should you choose? It mostly depends on your needs. If you do not need a SpO2 sensor and a device monitoring all those sports modes, then Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is the best wearable for you. Otherwise, go for the Honor Band 5. You should opt for the Redmi Band only if you want to save money.

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi recently launched its first fitness tracker in the market, dubbed as Redmi Band. Now, the same product is reportedly set to launch in the Europen market, but under a new name and branding.

As per the reports, the Redmi Band will be launched in Europe as Xiaomi Mi Band 4C which carries model number HMSH01GE. While it is expected to soon go on sale in Europe, there’s no exact date or timing known because of the COVID-19 issues.

To remind you, the Redmi Band comes with a square-shaped 1.08-inch AMOLED Color Touch Screen with 2.5D scratch-resistant tempered glass on the top for added protection. It also comes with support for Bluetooth 5.0 BLE to connect with smartphones.

Redmi entered the smart band market earlier this month in China with its own Redmi Band. The company is targeting the ultra-cheap fitness band segment with users who just want the basic fitness tracking features at an extremely affordable price tag. The Redmi Band goes for 99 yuan ($14) in China, which is even cheaper than Xiaomi’s Mi Band 4.

We just got the Redmi Band in our hands yesterday and decided to give you guys a quick tour of its design and features. Our first impressions have been pretty positive with the band offering a comfortable design and enough features to get you started on your fitness journey.

Redmi Band Hands-on

The Redmi Band may not be the best-looking fitness band in the market right now it is quite refined for its price tag. The main body of the Redmi band and the strap fit well together, so much so that it feels like a one-piece design. But note that the strap can be removed from the side to expose the USB plug used for charging. This is one of the most convenient charging designs in the fitness wearable market – so you don’t need any external cables or cradles. You can practically charge the Redmi Band anywhere with a USB slot.

The Redmi Band is light and comfortable to wear. If you have worn a Xiaomi Mi Band, the feeling is similar. So most of you won’t mind wearing it for a long period of time.

Simply put, the design of the Redmi Band isn’t special but that’s not really a bad thing. A simple yet useful design is what we expect from an extremely cheap wearable fitness band.

The 1.08-inch color LCD display offers a pretty decent viewing experience. The display is big enough to show important information at a glance. Unlike other black and white display wearables, the Redmi Band’s display offers interesting and colorful visual elements for fitness tracking and over 70 watch faces ensuring enough customization options.

The display resolution does feel a bit low but for the $14 price tag, we can’t really complain about this screen.

The Redmi Band can be charged via the USB plug under 2 hours. Once charged, you don’t have to worry about charging for nearly 14 days. You can literally wear the band anywhere you want, including while swimming, thanks to its 5ATM waterproofing.

The band comes with all the basic features you would expect from a fitness wearable. This includes 5 professional sports modes like running, walking, cycling, and even indoor exercise, 24-hour heart rate check, sleep monitoring, and even text and call notifications.

The Redmi Band doesn’t support NFC.

Overall, for $14, the Redmi Band offers everything you expect from a smart band and even more. Despite being a first-generation wearable, the band is built well and caters to first-time fitness enthusiasts.

Redmi recently expanded its product offering to include a fitness tracker recently with the launch of the Redmi Band. The band isn’t any spectacular but is a cheap fitness tracker with several features.

The Redmi Band adopts a design different from the Mi Band models. Instead of a curved OLED screen, it features a flat AMOLED display which from the hands-on/unboxing images doesn’t look bad. The band equally comes in four attractive colours namely; black, blue, red and brown.

The Redmi Band features a rectangular-shaped 0.95-inch color AMOLED display with a 2.5D tempered glass on top to prevent the screen from scratches. The entire screen is touch-sensitive.

The Redmi smart band also comes with removable rubber straps. The strap is soft and made from skin-friendly material which makes it comfortable to wear for a longer duration. The band is designed in such a way that the charging port is embedded inside the straps with a charging icon embossed on the strap where it is located. It charges via a USB A port and as such, you can charge it on a laptop or any other device with a USB port.

The band comes in a colourful retail box similar to the one the Mi Band 4 comes in. The retail box contains only the smart band and a user manual.

For features, the Redmi Band comes with Bluetooth 5.0 BLE which enables it to connect with smartphones. The smart band presents with features such as heart rate monitor, five sports modes, pedometer, alarm, sedentary alert, call and SMS notifications

The band can conveniently pair with any smartphone running Android 4.4 or above and iOS 9.0 or higher. Most of all, it boasts of 14 days of battery life.

You’ll have to pay just $14 for the Redmi Band but that’s if you are in China. However, it is available to preorder outside China for $19.99 on Giztop.

After becoming an independent brand, Redmi has been making all sorts of products like smartphones, IoT devices, routers, appliances, etc. Now, the brand also announced its first fitness band dubbed as Redmi Band as teased yesterday on Weibo. It will be crowdfunded for a price tag of only 95 Yuan ($13) from 10 AM, April 9 in China. However, the retail price of the band will be 99 Yuan ($14).

Redmi has now ventured into smart wearable business with the launch of Redmi Band. This fitness tracker from the brand features a 1.08-inch rectangular color display. The design of the smart band resembles that of Huawei / Honor Bands and the recently launched Realme Band.

In fact, it even has support for direct USB charging similar to the competitors listed above. The company claims a 14-day battery life from a full charge. As for tracking, it comes with 5 sports modes and even has an optical heart rate sensor to monitor heart rates during workouts as well as throughout the day. It also has support for sleep monitoring to help users achieve their sleep goals.

After more than two months since news of Redmi launching a smartband surfaced, we finally have a launch date. Thankfully, we do not have to wait for long.

The official Redmi Weibo account shared a poster today teasing the arrival of its first wearable which should arrive as the Redmi Band. According to the Weibo post, the wearable will be announced tomorrow at 14:00 hrs (China Time).

While the poster doesn’t show the smartband itself, another poster has surfaced on Weibo that may possibly be that of the Redmi Band, although it is not stated.

The poster says the unnamed smartband launches tomorrow too at 14:00 hrs. It has a rectangular color display and will be available in orange, green, black, and blue. We can’t say outrightly that this is the Redmi Band since the manufacturer’s logo isn’t on the poster. However, based on the leak from January which shows the Redmi Band with a rectangular display, there is a high chance it is it.

The Redmi Band should come with features such as a calorie counter, pedometer, and a heart rate sensor. It should also be able to receive notification alerts when connected to the phone. We won’t rule out the possibility of it having NFC for payments.

Redmi is yet to launch a new product in India this year but something may be coming soon judging from a video teaser shared by the official twitter account.

The video was posted a few hours ago with the caption “The genesis of power begins here.” and the hashtag #MorePowerToRedmi. However, the video itself doesn’t reveal much about what to expect.

There have been several guesses since the video was posted. The account did say it is not a new phone, which rules out the Redmi 9 and Redmi Note 9. It also said it is not a computer, so it is not the RedmiBook. There are other guesses including power banks and faster-charging technology but the responses were vague. However, there is one product that didn’t show up in the comments and that is the Redmi Band.

It has been reported that Redmi is working on its first fitness tracker which is expected to launch as the Redmi Band. The fitness tracker will support payment, have a heart rate sensor, alarm function, and also display weather info.

It is possible the teaser is for the Redmi Band or a different product entirely. It may even be a new phone (Redmi 9A, Redmi 9, or Redmi Note 9) but decided to deny it just to mislead fans. Nevertheless, we will keep our eyes peeled for more info.

Xiaomi‘s fitness band has always been known for its cheap pricing, solid build and good performance. Since the Mi Band 4 was released, the units have sold massively. A survey of wearable devices in China by IDC for Q3 2019 had revealed that Xiaomi’s wearables command 25% of the market. Of course, most of the wearables sold were the Mi Band series.

New information has emerged showing that Xiaomi’s Redmi brand may be trying to replicate the success of the Mi Band. In other words, Redmi has got a new wearable device, specifically, a fitness band in the works. The keyword”Redmi band” was spotted on the source code of the latest version of the Xiaomi Wear app.  The code shows the device will be equipped with features such as watch faces, notification, weather alert, alarm clock, payment, find band, heart rate, music control and other functions. Judging from these functions alone, the Redmi band seems to cram more features than the current Mi Band 4.

In addition to these features, some persons have also dug up the schematics of the Redmi Band on Xiaomi’s CDN server. In terms of the appearance, the Redmi Band will completely deviate from the design style of the Mi Band. The shape is simpler, more like a bracelet. Maybe this is also one of the means of reducing the cost of the wearable.

We expect the device to be cheaper than the Mi Band. However, Redmi is yet to release any information on the purported Redmi Band.
