While the series spans several models, only three have actually been flagship phones and they are the Reno 10x Zoom, the Reno Ace, and the Reno 5G. The Reno3 series and the Reno4 series have all been mid-range phones, but a leak has revealed that will change with the next-gen series.

According to Digital Chat Station, the successor to the Reno4 series will have a flagship processor, specifically a Snapdragon 800 series chipset.

The next-generation Reno series uses the flagship core of the Snapdragon 8 series [eat melon]

We are not sure if the next-gen Reno series will launch as the Reno 5 yet but we expect it to arrive this year. This means it should feature the Snapdragon 865 or Snapdragon 865 Plus.

There is also a high chance that there will be models with a mid-range processor from both Qualcomm and MediaTek alongside the flagship(s). These models will not only have a lower price tag but should also pack fewer features.

OPPO is set to launch the Reno4 Pro 4G in India tomorrow. The phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 720G processor, unlike its Chinese variant that has a Snapdragon 765G processor and support for 5G. The 4G variant will also pack quad rear cameras, a curved AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, and is rumored to have a price tag of around INR 32,990 (~$440).

The company already has the OPPO Reno 5G model that comes with this new generation network support. But it looks like this list is going to expand very soon as OPPO is looking to add 5G to most of its upper mid-range and flagship smartphones in 2020.

OPPO’s 5G expert Shen Jia revealed recently in an event that OPPO will add support for 5G on all products priced above 3000 yuan ($421). He further adds that OPPO has prepared a budget of 10 Billion yuan for R&D, of which a big chunk will be invested in the development of 5G products. The company aims to explore the true potential of 5G by combining it with next-generation technologies and applying it in areas such as 5G HD video calls, cloud gaming, super-fast 5G downloads and so on.

This is actually not very surprising. 5G is extremely important for China and it is said that over 70% of the global 5G smartphone sales will come from the Chinese market. Every major manufacturer is looking to grab a piece of this emerging technology, and OPPO most likely wouldn’t want to fall behind. Even Vivo has several 5G smartphones in the market, right from the affordable iQOO Pro 5G to the high-end NEX 3 5G.

OPPO is scheduled to announce the second generation of its new Reno lineup on August 28 in India. It has been revealed that there will be three new phones – the Reno 2, the Reno 2Z, and the Reno 2F. The Reno 2 has now appeared on TENAA, baring all its specs ahead of its release next week.

The Reno 2’s model numbers are listed as PCKM00 and PCKT00. The phone will have a 6.5-inch 2400 x 1080 resolution. The aspect ratio for the phone is 20:9 just like that of the Galaxy A70 which has an Infinity-U display.

The Reno 2 is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor. A leak says the chipset is the Snapdragon 730 processor but we can’t confirm that until a benchmark result is released. The chipset will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The phone will also have support for storage expansion (256GB max.).

OPPO will equip the phone with quad-rear cameras – a 48MP primary sensor paired with a 13MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP depth sensor. A 16MP sensor will sit in front for selfies and video calls.

The OPPO Reno 2 will run Android 9 out of the box. It will have an in-display fingerprint scanner and have a 3915mAh battery under the hood. The TENAA listing says it will be available in Black, Pink, and Green. Its dimensions are given as 160 x 74.3 x 9.5 millimeters and its weight is 189 grams.

Unfortunately, the listing doesn’t include images of the phone.

Update Begins Here:

The TENAA listing has been updated with images, giving us a look at the design.

The Reno 2 doesn’t have a notch nor does it have a punch-hole in the display for the selfie camera. However, there seem to be moderately-sized bezels at the top and bottom even though the device is believed to come with a shark-fin pop-up selfie camera.

[envira-gallery id=”271227″]

On the back, the cameras are lined up vertically in a black housing that sticks out like a sore thumb against the pink body. There is an LED flash flanking the cameras on the left. Inscribed along the back is the manufacturer’s name and the words “Designed for RENO”.

The phone has its power button on the left while the volume rocker is on the left. The side view shows the quad rear cameras are flush with the rest of the body.

The OPPO Reno 2 will also be available in black and green.

The update with version number PCCM00-11-A.16 adds new full-screen gesture controls to the device.

The various gesture controls include swiping from both sides of the display to carry out specific tasks. Swiping from the left or right side of the screen inward takes you to the previous app. When you swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen, it takes you to the home screen. While to open up recent apps, you swipe upwards from the bottom and then pause at the middle.

The Gesture navigation method is an alternative to the use of virtual buttons that have been implemented on Android phones for a while now but continues to get improvements, including the latest Andriod 9.0 Pie. The Reno runs on ColorOS 6.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie and already has some gesture control features but the update seems to bring some added gestures. Gesture buttons bring ease to phone operation when you get a good grasp of all the supported gestures. It also allows for one-handed operation easier.

Now, ahead of the phone’s launch, the company and its executives have been revealed details about the phones.

After the phone’s renders and key specs were leaked online, the company’s VP has now confirmed that the device will come in two variants. For users who prefer excellent camera performance, there will be a “top-end” model with 10x optical zoom support.

However, for those who just want decent smartphone performance can opt for the “standard” model of the Oppo Reno, which will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC and will come with the Sony’s 48 MP camera sensor.

Earlier, the phone’s specs had surfaced online, which revealed that it’ll feature a 6.4-inch display that probably supports Full HD+ resolution. The smartphone is fitted with a 48-megapixel + 5-megapixel dual camera setup and a front-facing snapper of 16-megapixel. The device is loaded with the latest ColorOS v6.0 and it is equipped with connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.0.

A recent trademark filing has revealed that the smartphone will be available in five variants — Reno Pro, Reno Plus, Reno Zoom, Reno Lite, and Reno Youth, differing in terms of specifications and performance. It also seems that Breeno — an AI-based voice assistant from Oppo will be made available on these Reno series smartphones.

As said, Oppo has already scheduled a launch event on 10th April in China to launch the Oppo Reno-series smartphones. However, it’s not yet known if the company will be launching all five smartphone models on the same day.

Already, we know the device will be a flagship that would be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 chipset. Another major highlight of the model is the 48MP Sony sensor onboard. The device will also pack a big 4064mAh battery. Since it is a flagship model, one would have expected the device will have wireless charging support but that isn’t going to happen.

OPPO’s VP Bryan Shen has revealed that the Reno will not have wireless charging feature. The VP hinted that the device will also not have the latest SuperVOOC feature but will come with the latest VOOC 3.0 fast charging. According to Bryan, the VOOC 3.0 can charge the phone from 1% to full charge 23.8% faster than VOOC2.0.

OPPO’s VP has been the source of almost all the details we have known about the Reno. However, he has stopped short of revealing the pricing detail of the model. We’ll have to wait until the official launch to find out about the price.

Meanwhile, the Chinese company is completing the last steps necessary to let the handsets from the new series hit the market. One of these is the certification from China’s 3C which decrees products as suitable for the final consumers. Today, two Oppo phones from the new Reno series received the official certification from CCC with the model numbers PCAM000 and PCAT00. The two Reno devices by Oppo are expected to sport the Snapdragon 710 chipset by Qualcomm.

It is one of the best midrange SoCs from the San Diego giant and it is an octa-core chipset running at a max frequency of 2.2 GHz, paired with an Adreno 516 GPU. The two variants come with a 48 MP main sensor for the main camera setup on the rear side. 3C revealed that the two handsets certified come with a 20W fast charging technology (5V 4A) which is not Super VOOC as this technology comes with a higher power. According to reports, the Oppo Reno line-up will be composed of at least six variants. Among these models, there will be a Lamborghini Edition as well as a 5G Edition with the support to 5G connectivity. Unlike the models certified by 3C, these two variants will come with flagship-class specifications.

They are expected to boast the Snapdragon 855 chipset (which will be paired with the Snapdragon X50 5G modem on the 5G Edition), up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage. The rear camera should come with the new 10x lossless zoom technology, and among the specifications, there should also be a 5000 mAh battery with the support to Super VOOC 4.0 fast charging technology with a max power of 50W. Last but not least, these devices may sport a Dynamic AMOLED display with HDR10+.

As the phone’s name was not revealed, there’s a possibility that the said upcoming smartphone could be this Reno-branded smartphone, which is expected to have a different design from the previous Oppo smartphones.

He had also revealed that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and the most powerful processor so far — Snapdragon 855. In the camera department, the smartphone will come with Oppo’s 10x optical zoom technology, which was showcased by the company at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain.

Further, Shen Yiren has also confirmed that the device will be driven by a 4,065mAh battery. While he has not mentioned anything regarding the fast charging support, we expected the smartphone to have a powerful fast-charging technology.

Earlier, he had confirmed that the smartphone, which will be released in April, will have more than one million units in stock. He further added that the company will strive to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack on their smartphones.
