These devices come with reinforced bodies, huge batteries, and screens that can handle more abuse than an average handset. If you are the right person, here are five of the best rugged phones to look for in 2026.

Ulefone Armor 29 Pro Thermal

The Ulefone Armor 29 Pro Thermal comes with an IP68/IP69K rating. Ulefone claims it can handle drops from up to 1.5m. Two special features of this phone are a 1,000-lumen dedicated flood flashlight and a warning light.

Inside, it packs a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 and a massive 21,200 mAh battery with 120 W wired charging (and PPS support). Despite the large battery, the brand claims it can hit 20 % charge in about 10 minutes. As for cameras, it includes a 50MP + 64MP + 50 MP setup on the back and a 50 MP selfie shooter.

It was released in September 2025 at around £559 / $799 and is available worldwide through Ulefone’s regional stores, official channels, and places like AliExpress. Pricing does vary a bit depending on where you buy it.

Samsung Galaxy XCover7 Pro

Samsung’s take is a bit more compact while still delivering the durability you’d expect. It has an IP68 rating and can survive drops of up to 1.5 m. The 4,350 mAh battery is removable, which is genuinely useful if you’re working long shifts or often away from a charger.

At 240 g and 10.2 mm thick, it’s also noticeably lighter and thinner than a lot of its rugged rivals. Specs include a 6.6-inch 1080p PLS LCD with 120 Hz, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, and 15 W wired charging. Cameras are a more modest 50 MP + 8 MP on the back with a 13 MP front camera.

It went on sale in Europe from late April 2025 and arrived in the US in early May, mainly aimed at enterprise and business customers. There’s no successor yet. Current European prices sit roughly between €405 and €609 depending on the retailer and any business deals. Official launch price was around €609.

Ulefone Armor 33 Pro

This is one of the more extreme options. Same IP68/IP69K rating and 1.5 m drop protection as its siblings, but the standout feature is a secondary 3.4-inch display on the rear (IPS LCD, 412 × 960, up to 600 nits). It packs a 25,500 mAh battery and supports 66 W charging.

The primary screen is a 6.95-inch IPS LCD with 120 Hz, 1080p, and up to 700 nits. Performance comes from a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X. Just be aware it’s a big phone: 185.5 × 85.5 × 34 mm and 776.5 g. Cameras are 50 MP + 64 MP + 50 MP on the back and 32 MP up front.

It was released in August 2025 and usually sells for around €379–€467 depending on the retailer, region, and any current discounts. It’s available across most of Europe and several other global markets.

Ulefone Armor 33

This shares a lot of the same rugged hardware as the Pro (IP68/IP69K and 1.5 m drop resistance), but instead of the rear secondary screen it has an RGB LED on the back that can light up for music, calls, notifications, and charging. It also gets a dedicated 1,100-lumen flood flashlight.

Inside it’s a MediaTek Helio G100, so this one is 4G-only rather than 5G. You still get the big 6.95-inch 1080p 120 Hz IPS LCD, the same 25,500 mAh battery with 66 W charging, and the same 50 MP + 64 MP + 50 MP camera setup with a 32 MP selfie camera.

It was also released in August 2025 and is a bit cheaper, roughly €310–€380 depending on where you look. Available globally through AliExpress, Amazon, and the official Ulefone store.

Doogee V Max S

IP68/IP69K and 1.5 m drop resistance again, plus a 22,000 mAh battery. Charging is more modest at 33 W. It weighs 536 g and measures 178.5 × 83.1 × 26.3 mm, still chunky, but not quite as extreme as the heaviest Ulefone models. Specs include a 6.58-inch 1080p IPS LCD with 120 Hz and a MediaTek Dimensity 7050. Cameras are a 108 MP + 20 MP + 2 MP setup with a 16 MP front camera.

It was released back in May 2025 and generally sells for around €380–€430. You can find it worldwide through major online platforms, global shipping suppliers, and Doogee’s official store.

The weight of 395 grams is nearly double that of typical smartphones.

On the front, you get a 6.56-inch IPS LCD panel that offers HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the rear packs a 48MP main sensor, a 2MP macro shooter, and a 20MP night vision camera. Ulefone equips the Armor X16 with the budget Helio G91 4G SoC, which is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Other notable features include a fingerprint scanner for security, Android 15 OS out of the box, NFC, and an IR blaster.

Rugged phone is crazy right now, can you believe this phone in my hand is one of them? So tiny! It’s the latest S mini from Doogee. If I hadn’t told you about it, you might believe I am holding an old Nokia phone!

Comparison

In fact, let me start off by comparing this phone to the normal rugged phone, an old and glorious Nokia 105, along with some flagship smartphones. As you can see, S mini is a lot smaller and thinner than the Doogee V31 GT and those flagships, but at the same size as the Nokia 105. Regarding weight, S mini is nearly 60% lighter than the V31 GT, and almost the same as Nokia 105. This has taken me back to the days when I could only use texts and phone calls to contact people, via a pocketable mobile device, that was…..2004 maybe?

Size

It’s clearly a phone that can be held in your hand very securely, and also being operated absolutely one-handed. My thumb can easily get to the four corners without any effort, or conveniently toss it between both hands, this is the experience I have missed for so so long time. 

As a mini smartphone, it takes so much of the burden off, and unlocks a lot of possibilities you will be using this phone. Imagine you are on a hike to the mountain or just a walk around the city, this phone won’t add extra weight at all, whether to your backpack, or your pants. And of course, if you are a true minimalist, you can also take this phone as the alternative to those bulky smartphones. Trust me, you will fall in love with it if you get your hands on this S mini.

Specification side, this phone is equipped with Helio G99 Octa Core Processor, amazing 15GB Ram+256GB storage, you might be wondering how well it actually performs. By looking at the benchmarks, it got 413491, but what is surprising is that its MEM score is 113220, which means that its memory read and write ability can even reach a third of some flagship phones, single core performance is expected as the typical Helio G99 level, I would give it a good score actually. This phone has a 4.5” QHD+IPS display, it has decent clarity and response rate, but of course it’s too small for gaming, so we wouldn’t recommend playing games on it.

Camera

2This phone has AI Double Cameras that are 50MP+2MP combo. When we tried to take some photos with it. Through the blessing of two AI cameras, in the case of sufficient light during the day, its performance is still good, and you can even see the railing in the office window when you enlarger the picture. A compact rugged smart phone that’s not a camera-oriented device, the S MINI also works relatively well in night-view mode.

In terms of software, it has Android 13 original inside, such a clean and versatile system is always appreciated. In the few days with this phone, it’s 100% snappy and intuitive. There are also dual sim cards supported, or you can have one sim + one TF card here. So you know it can be your primary phone also if you are a fan of compact phones.

To my surprise, it has both fingerprint recognition and face unlock, they work really well and fast on this phone. And since it’s one tiny phone and I would usually hold it left-handed, I only entered the mid-finger in the phone, which is just right on the place of the reader, really convenient for me actually. But if you are a phone-on-the-right-hand person, then the thumb is the best finger to be in that place. Now the face unlock is also snappy, whenever you lift the phone up, the face unlock would do its job right after, such astonishing performance is the best level among all rugged phones I would say.

Another feature that has been passed down is the smart key here. This button is customizable, one click, double click, or long press, then get to a certain function or app you want. Furthermore, if this phone is going to be in the hands of an elder person, the easy launcher is a kind feature to have for them, as the cards are colorful enough to be recognized, and also very straightforward.

Battery

Now this phone has a 3000mAh battery embedded, you might argue that it is smaller than most phones nowadays, but since it is a much smaller phone and with the original Android system, the battery life is better by a mile. Since it runs on a small-sized display, in actual use, we wouldn’t be able to drain the battery in a day, this is actually a very good performance.

Digital Screen

Almost forgot, there is a little LED display at the back here, this screen is capable of showing the battery level, date and time, along with the temperature and humidity level. Once you put the phone facing down, this screen becomes an essential tool for you to get more info. This turns out to be the biggest surprise, I really like it.

Motorola is apparently gearing up to launch a new smartphone, but it isn’t like its usual offering. The Defy 5G is a rugged smartphone that is being built in collaboration with another brand and will offer a unique system for satellite messaging. Here are all the details.

The company is partnering with British phone maker Bullitt Group to build this new rugged phone. Interestingly enough, this firm has also worked with CAT for their rugged phones as well. Last year, it had announced that it has plans to launch the world’s first smartphone that will feature a two way satellite messaging. This device in question will be the Motorola Defy 5G. Bullitt has been developing this technology by working with the a known chipmaker and a satellite network infrastructure partner for the past two years.

This will enable the upcoming handset to seamlessly switch between cellular, WiFi, and satellite connectivity. The feature is dubbed as the Bullitt Satellite Connect and is a collaborative effort with Bullitt, MediaTek, and Skylo. If the device can’t connect via a WiFi or a cellular as usual, Bullitt’s messaging system will connect through a satellite. Notably, anyone on the receiving end will get a regular SMS on their phones and can even respond by using the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app.

While finer details are not known, Bullitt stated that “the cost of the messages will be deducted from the satellite messaging subscriber’s plan with no cost to the recipient.” The subscription plans to start from as low as 4.99 US Dollars per month and the SOS Assistance but will be free for the first year. The Motorola Defy 5G rugged phone’s pricing is also unclear right now, but the announcement is likely to be sometime in the first quarter of 2023.

We all know that DOOGEE likes to experiment with novel designs on rugged phones. If you remember, the S98 series that we reviewed earlier, looks different from other rugged phones. Today we are going to take a look at their new design S61 Pro, which once again refreshes our perception of rugged phone design.

DOOGEE S61 Pro Box Accessories 

This time, the box is not a big box like the S98 series, but a yellow box. The accessories inside are the same accessories that most rugged phones have. A Manual and Warranty card, an Anti-scratch film, and screen protector accessories. There is also a film that has been pre-applied on the phone. Then there is a SIM Card pin, charger, and data cable. This time the box also comes with a wrist rope, saving you a dollar. That’s all the accessories in the box.

DOOGEE S61 Pro Design

Now let’s take a good look at the design of the S61 Pro. From the appearance you can see that this is not an ordinary rugged phone, at least I have never seen a rugged phone with a transparent back cover. It reminds me of the Mi 8 explorer edition, which also uses a transparent back cover design. You can see the circuit board inside the S61 Pro through the back cover, very geeky design style, I believe many people will like it.

The two sides are made with a honeycomb anti-slip finish. The middle design that looks like a wireless charging coil is actually an NFC coil. Please note, it is only a $130 entry rugged phone, no wireless charging support is very much reasonable. The headphone jack is of course also there, SIM Card slot also supports two Nano SIM card and TF card. Another thing I like is that it only weighs 266g, which is light for many rugged phones that are over 300g. It’s also about the same size as a regular phone, and with its special appearance, you really feel like you’re using a regular phone instead of a rugged phone when you hold it in your hand. I really like the smaller rugged phone, at least my pants don’t fall down anymore with their weight.

Some people may ask: without the protection of the backplane, the circuit board will not be damaged by exposure to the sun? The answer is no. Because this circuit board is only decorative, the real motherboard in this circuit board is below. How do I know? Because I took the whole back panel off to confirm. This back panel is made of plastic, and there is a risk of scratching if used for a long time.

You can also remove it yourself and replace it with your own DIY backplate, but I don’t recommend you do that because you will lose the warranty. We replaced it with the official wood grain backplate, which also looks beautiful.

DOOGEE S61 Pro Display

This 6-inch LCD screen, like other rugged phones, is nothing special in terms of specs and basically meets your usage needs. Even so, I still like one of its points: it is a full rectangular screen, rather than a hole-punch or water-drop screen. The rugged phone is not likely to have a narrow bezel anyway, so why not give us a full screen, right?

As you can see, the S61 Pro has only two lenses, the main camera plus a Night vision camera, and there is not much I can say about the camera system. It’s can record daily life or scan QR codes without any problem. That’s enough for this phone.

DOOGEE S61 Pro Hardware 

The S61 Pro uses a MediaTek Helio G35 processor. With a score of 137,000 on Antutu, we can see that it is only an entry-level processor. But that doesn’t mean it can’t play games.

Thanks to PUBG’s optimization for entry phones, the ultra-smooth Graphics can be kept at 30fps, which is an acceptable level. The system is also the latest Android 12. The battery capacity is 5180mAh, which is not big, but it is understandable because the size and weight have been reduced. Officially, it also says that the Standby time is at least 600 hours, so two days without charging should not be a problem. Waterproof ratings like IP68 are also available, meaning that the phone will not be affected by water in depths of up to 1.5m.

The S61 Pro is a budget rugged phone, but it is also a phone with the most special design. Even for more money, you will be hard-pressed to see a more special rugged phone. who wouldn’t like a transparent phone, right?

And at only $130, it doesn’t seem so difficult to consider this model. For those who have a need for good looks and a lightweight rugged phone, buy the S61 Pro.
