Samsung has begun taking pre-orders for its Odyssey 3D monitor in South Korea, a 4K display that promises a glasses-free 3D experience. Using eye-tracking cameras, it renders unique perspectives for each eye, creating a stereoscopic effect that’s dazzling both in person and on paper. However, this cutting-edge tech comes with steep hardware demands and limitations that might leave buyers questioning its value—especially at Samsung’s premium price point.

The Odyssey 3D doesn’t magically turn all content into 3D

For gaming, it requires developer optimization, with only two titles—The First Berserker: Khazan and Lies of P—currently supported. Samsung is partnering with studios to expand this list, but for now, the 3D gaming potential is narrow.

Its 2D-to-3D video conversion feature is equally restricted: it needs Reality Hub running, full-screen playback, and an Nvidia GPU (RTX 3080 or higher recommended). It also won’t work with HDR, DRM-protected content like Netflix, or unsupported video players, severely limiting its entertainment appeal. Add in the need for a beefy CPU (Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 1700X minimum), and the monitor’s best features demand a high-end rig.

As a fallback, the Odyssey 3D doubles as a solid 2D monitor, boasting a 27-inch 4K panel, 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and support for AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync. But here’s the rub: if 3D isn’t your priority, cheaper Odyssey models offer better 2D performance for less.

Samsung’s track record of hyping “quality” innovations—only to saddle them with caveats or follow competitors’ cuts—feels familiar. The Odyssey 3D’s price tag reflects its ambition, but its niche appeal and hardware hurdles might trick buyers expecting a seamless, all-purpose upgrade. For now, it’s a flashy tech flex with a steep entry fee.

Samsung Electronics unveiled a bunch of cutting edge gaming monitors and monitors during the CES 2025 event earlier this month. These included the new Odyssey OLED and 3D gaming monitors. Now, these have officially been launched in the global market with pre-orders kicking off in select countries today (24th March 2025), so here’s everything you need to know.

Odyssey 3D

The South Korean tech giant is expanding its monitor lineup with new 2025 models with the first on the list being the Odyssey 3D (G90XF). It is a 27-inch monitor with a unique feature that allows it to offer a 3D experience without requiring glasses. The monitor uses advanced eye tracking tech and a lenticular lens that simulates the 3D image experience. So the gaming monitor can offer a more immersive experience while gaming or watching videos.

To showcase this tech, Samsung is even collaborating with Nexon’s The First Berserker: Khazan, Neowiz’s Lies of P and its upcoming Overture DLC. The monitor uses AI video conversion, offers 4K resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, FreeSync, and G-Sync support as well.

Odyssey OLED G8

The 2025 Odyssey lineup also includes a refreshed Odyssey OLED G8 model. The G81SF arrives in either a 27-inch or 32-inch variant, which offers 4K resolution along with a 240Hz refresh rate. Both sizes use a QD-OLED panel that is also VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400 certified.

The panel also has UL certified Glare Free tech for reduced reflections and Samsung’s OLED Safeguard+ that includes a Dynamic Cooling system with a Pulsating Heat Pipe for improved heat dissipation. Other notable features include 0.03ms response time, a 240Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync support. The Odyssey OLED G8 features a slim metal design with Core Lighting+ and an ergonomic stand for an easy setup.

Odyssey G9

The Odyssey G9 (G91F) was unveiled with a tall 49-inch ultrawide monitor that offers a Dual QHD display with a 1000R curve. Along with the wide view and high resolution, the Odyssey G9 has a 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro as well. You also get VES DisplayHDR 600 and HDR10+ Gaming as well. With such a large screen real estate, Samsung offers great multitasking with Picture-by-Picture and Picture-in-Picture modes.

ViewFinity S8

Last but not least, we have the Samsung ViewFinity S8 (S80UD), which is the only non-gaming monitor on this list. It is a monitor built for professionals that sports a tall 37-inch monitor with 4K resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, HDR10 and 1 billion colors for creative professionals. There is also a TÜV Rheinland certification for eye protection and comfort as well. Other notable features include a 90W USB-C port, KVM switch, and more.

Samsung has recently launched multiple Samsung Odyssey high-end gaming monitors in the global market. Whether it be the Odyssey Ark 55-inch 4K monitor in India or the Deagon Knight G7 32-inch monitor in China, which is expected to launch as an Odyssey G7 series monitor in the global market soon.

Adding to the vast lineup, the brand has unveiled a new high-end 43-inch gaming monitor in its domestic market of South Korea called the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (G70NC) model. Currently, only a release date for Korea, which falls on January 2, has been announced; however, there are plans to debut the new 43-inch Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 gaming monitor at CES 2023 before moving through with a wider global launch, including the North American market.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (G70NC) has a price tag of 1.25 million won (US$982) in Korea, however, the US and European pricing are expected to be higher when the monitor eventually launches in these markets.

As for specs and features, the monitor comes with a Quantum Mini-LED display with a 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and a response time of 1 ms. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 also features VESA-certified DisplayHDR 600 capability and a high 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

The 43-inch Odyssey Neo G7 display has two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, and two USB 3.0 connections for connectivity. The flat-screen device includes 20 W stereo speakers.

The monitor’s built-in Samsung Gaming Hub streaming tool supports AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro software for more fluid gameplay. Thanks to OTT integration, the 43-inch Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 gaming monitor can also be utilized for a variety of services (like Netflix) without a linked PC or TV.

With CES 2022 being underway, various companies have been showcasing their latest innovations and breakthroughs in technologies. Samsung is one of these brands and has already unveiled a number of new products like TVs during the major event. Now, the company has also announced a new curved monitor as well, and it is beautiful!

The new monitor in question is the South Korean tech giant’s 55 inch Odyssey Ark. During the CES 2022 announcement, the company revealed that it sports a 16:9 aspect ratio and is designed to be used both vertically and horizontally as well, thanks to its specially designed stand. Furthermore, the curved monitor also features new multi view adaptable screen functionality, which allows users to shift the screen size to the content being displayed.

In other words, it can shift based on the movie or video game being played. Unfortunately, Samsung did not reveal any finer details regarding the monitor that resembles a crescent moon. So, we have no information regardings its panel, display resolution, refresh rate, and other such key details. But from what we can observe, it is likely targeted towards professionals and gamers alike.

The company added that the 55 inch Odyssey Ark will go on sale in the second half of this year in the US. However, it did not reveal availability for any other regions. Samsung introduced the Odyssey lineup of curved QLED gaming monitors at the CES2020 earlier this year. Later, it launched the Odyssey G7 and G9 monitors Globally including its home country South Korea. Today, the company has finally brought the monitors to India.

Samsung through a press release, announced the arrival of G7 and G9 curved gaming monitors in the country. Accordingly, the Odyssey G7(G75T) comes in two variants- 27-inch and 32-inch. However, the G9(G95T) has a sole 49-inch model. Samsung says that the Odyssey monitors are the world’s first DQHD(only on G9) and 1000R QLED monitors with a curvature radius of 1,000mm. Additionally, the monitors have a 240Hz refresh rate, TÜV Rheinland certification for eye-comfort, NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility, and more.

Odyssey G7 and G9 Curved Gaming Monitors India Price, Availability

The Odyssey G7(27 and 32-inch), and G9(49-inch) will be available for pre-booking starting today(November 25). Users can pre-book the device till December 31, 2020, on Samsung stores.

Although we don’t have an exact pricing for the monitors, Samsung says that the price will range from ₹49,000($663.52) to ₹1,99,000($2694.71). That said, Samsung doesn’t provide any info on whether the Monitors will be available in other e-commerce sites like Flipkart, Amazon.

Samsung Odyssey G7 and G9 Curved Gaming Monitor Similarities 

The Samsung Odyssey G7 and G9 monitors have a few similarities. You get the same I/O like 1x HDMI (2.0), 2X DP (1.4), USB 3.0X2(Down) on G7 and G9 models. In the box, you get a 2.0 meter DP cable and a 1.5 meter USB Hub Cable as an accessory. They also have a sleek rear design with color changing rear core lighting for aesthetics.

 First, both of them are QLED displays. Precisely the have a VA(Vertical Arrangement) QLED(Quantum Dot LED) panel. Additionally, the panels on G7 and G9 have a contrast ratio of 2500:1 with a response time of 1ms(GTG). Here GTG is a pixel speed measurement which is Gray-to-Gray. It is a measurement of how long a pixel takes to go from one gray level to the next one.

Moving on, both the panels also have a 240Hz refresh rate with a wider viewing angle of 178 degrees. Other common features are Free Sync premium Pro Eco Saving Plus, Eye Saver Mode. Flicker-Free, PIP, PBP, VESA, HAS stand, and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility. 

G7 and G9 Curved Gaming Monitor Differences

As mentioned earlier, G7 comes in two sizes 27, and 32-inches whereas the G9 comes in a solo 49-inch model. Also, regarding the display G9 has a HRD1000 VA panel with a peak brightness of 1000cd/m2, 32:9 aspect ratio. It is also the world’s first DQHD(Dual-QHD) with a picture resolution of 5120×1440 pixels. The G9 has a Black color at the front while white accents on the back and come with an external adaptor.

The G7 models on the other hand have an HDR600 VA panel with a QHD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. Unlike the G9, this panel has an aspect ratio of 16:9 and a peak brightness of 600cd/m2. The G7 has only Dark Gray accents and it comes with an Internal SMPS adaptor.
