Sony recently unveiled the Xperia 5 IV with some welcome improvements. Now, rumors are rife that the Japanese tech giant is working on another smartphone and it may be launched in November. The rumored smartphone is said to be the successor to the Xperia Pro-I, which was launched last year. The device’s moniker is not known yet, and we’d rather not speculate.

According to a tipster, the alleged Sony Xperia smartphone will come with a triple rear camera setup, featuring improved sensors (Via GSMArena). The device is said to have three 48-megapixel sensors. Interestingly, one of the three cameras will have a variable aperture between f/1.2 and f/4.0.

Further, the tipster reveals the primary camera will have the company’s 1-inch IMX903 sensor and the ultrawide unit will feature the 1/1.3-inch IMX803 sensor. The telephoto camera, on the other hand, will be an upgraded version of the 1/1.7” IMX557, which was also seen on the Xperia 1 II and Xperia 5 IV.

Details about the Xperia smartphone are still pretty short. As of now, we only know the alleged camera specifications of the smartphone. As mentioned, it will likely launch as the next-gen Sony Xperia Pro-I, which came with a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display offering a 120Hz refresh rate.

The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM. In terms of optics, the device features a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel 1-inch sensor accompanied by a 12-megapixel sensor, and a 12-megapixel sensor. While on the front, it has an 8-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calls.

Sony‘s premium Xperia Pro smartphone which was launched in the US in January this year has received the teardown treatment from JerryRigEverything.

The teardown shows that the pricy device which comes in at $2,499, utilises a plastic frame and back panel instead of metal and glass used on the Xperia 1 II model. We can’t tell why Sony decided to use plastic but for that price, we expect something more premium.

Inside the device, a mammoth vapr cooling chamber which is said to be the latest that has been seen on a smartphone could be seen. Vapor cooling chambers are usually known to be a design feature of gaming smartphones.  However, the Xperia Pro not only has one, but it is reputed to be the largest around to date.

The big vapour cooling chamber has a metal plate that functions as the interface with various graphite sheets conducting heat away from components and leading it to the plate. This includes sheets that help cool the phone’s 5G antennas. The metal plate in turn transfers heat to an enormous vapor chamber – it’s almost as tall and wide as the phone. The chamber then dumps all the heat out through the screen.

As a reminder, the Xperia Pro is powered by the old Snapdragon 865 chipset from last year and that is because it was first unveiled last year and was expected to have been launched last year.

Sony first announced the Xperia Pro alongside the Xperia 1II and Xperia 10II in February last year but the phone wasn’t available. The brand has now officially launched the Xperia Pro in the U.S. The phone arrives as Sony’s first 5G phone for the U.S market and it won’t come cheap. The premium smartphone carries a hefty price tag of $2,499.99.

The hefty price means the phone isn’t for everyone. Sony is targeting professional; users who can deploy the phone’s HDMI input to turn the device into an external camera monitor. Also, the 5G connectivity can be used to quickly upload or live-stream footage.

Apart from the HDMI input and US 5G support, the Xperia Pro’s hardware is no different from that of the Xperia 1 II. The Xperia 1II launched in the US with 4G only while in Europe, it came with 5G support. This model will subsequently not be launched in Europe, according to Sony.

Specs-wise, the Xperia Pro features a 6.5-inch  OLED display with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio and sub-4K resolution of 3840 x 1644 pixels. The device is powered by the good old Snapdragon 865 processor and packs a decent 4,000mAh battery. At the rear aspect, the phone features 12-megapixel wide, telephoto, and ultrawide cameras.

The HDMI input is located on the bottom of the phone while the USB-C port is shifted to the left to ensure the HDMI port is centered. Sony says it’s capable of taking up to a 4K 60fps HDR video stream and should work with any cameras that have an HDMI output to give you a clearer view of what is being photographed.

Further, the Xperia Pro supports both Sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G, and Sony claims that it has a unique four-way mmWave antenna array to maximize reception. There’s also a built-in network visualizer app that can be assigned to its shortcut key to helping you find the best position to get a signal.

Sony recently announced that it will launch a “Pro” version of its flagship series alongside the Xperia 1 II. Generally, the higher variant offers more features or higher spec components, but are also priced higher as well. However, reports suggest that the Sony Xperia Pro may be priced nearly $200-$300 more than the base Xperia 1 II.

As of right now, the price for the base Xperia is unknown in the US, however, the European pricing is 1,200 EUR while the Canadian price is likely to be around 1,200 CAD as well. Thus the base price for the Xperia 1 II is also likely to be just around 1,200 US Dollars or just under it. The latest Sony flagship series will only be available in certain countries or regions, including the US, Europe, and others, excluding Japan.

Furthermore, it is being marketed more as a supplementing tool alongside the new Professional grade Sony Alpha camera owners. The smartphone perfectly pairs with the camera and also helps in getting the perfect shots. The smartphone can be connected to the Sony Alpha via an HDMI connection so it can serve as a screen, outputting on the handset’s 4K OLED display.

The Sony Xperia Pro will also feature 5G mmWave antennas, making them 5G enabled. This will allow the smartphone to broadcast live at high video quality (reaching up to 5Gbps under perfect conditions). Although the base variant only arrives with a sub-6GHz 5G networking support, which has better coverage but slower speeds overall. The Sony Xperia 1 II is expected to launch in the late Spring of 2020, with the Pro variant following soon after.
