<p>In a recent announcement, the United States Trademark and Patent Office (USPTO) unveiled Apple&#8217;s latest design patent, pointing towards tactile feedback technology. Apple has made a significant leap forward in device durability by enhancing the protection of its Taptic Engine, a vital component responsible for generating precise haptic feedback sensations.</p>

<h3>A non-linear spring component acts like a Protective Barrier</h3>

<p>While it may not sound like the most game-changing invention, this patent demonstrates Apple&#8217;s commitment to enhancing the user experience and pushing the boundaries of technological innovation. The Taptic Engine is crucial for delivering tactile feedback to users, allowing them to interact with their devices in a more immersive and intuitive manner.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="763" height="388" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/462a5871-2904-4d39-a6cf-60520b693895.webp?x10805" alt="Apple" class="wp-image-541564" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/462a5871-2904-4d39-a6cf-60520b693895.webp 763w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/462a5871-2904-4d39-a6cf-60520b693895-300x153.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/462a5871-2904-4d39-a6cf-60520b693895-696x354.webp 696w" sizes="(max-width: 763px) 100vw, 763px" /></figure></div>

<p>Apple acknowledged that the current haptic feedback engine could be susceptible to damage when subjected to unexpected drops or forceful impacts. In such scenarios, the mass within the engine may surpass the threshold set by the spring, resulting in potential damage and impaired haptic feedback functionality.</p>

<p>To address this concern, Apple has introduced a unique solution. Building upon the existing haptic feedback engine, they have incorporated a non-linear spring component that acts as a protective barrier against excessive forces during drops or collisions. This ingenious addition relieves the strain on the internal mechanisms, preserving the engine&#8217;s integrity and ensuring uninterrupted haptic feedback performance.</p>

<p>By strengthening the Taptic Engine&#8217;s design with this feature, Apple is demonstrating that it is continuously striving to improve the durability and reliability of its devices, ensuring that users can enjoy a seamless experience even in the face of unexpected accidents.</p>

<p>This patent is another testament to Apple&#8217;s dedication to refining its products and upholding its reputation as a pioneer in the technology industry. As users eagerly await the next generation of Apple devices, they can expect an even more robust and resilient Taptic Engine that will enhance their interaction with Apple&#8217;s future devices.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone-15/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple iPhone 15 </a>series is still a while away from an official announcement. However, several months prior there are already various reports circulating about them. Now, the latest rumor hints at some key upgrades in the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone-15-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">iPhone 15 Pro</a> models compared to current gen iPhones.</p>

<p>The news arrives from known analyst Jeff Pu who shared a research note earlier this week. Pu stated that the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max models will come with certain new features. This includes a titanium frame, solid state volume and power buttons, with haptic feedback from two extra Taptic Engines. He also claimed that the higher end Pro models to have higher base RAM as well. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="632" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-1024x632.png?x10805" alt="Apple" class="wp-image-506484" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-1024x632.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-300x185.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-768x474.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-696x430.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-1068x659.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-680x420.png 680w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0-356x220.png 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/0x0.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The iPhone 14 Pro series launched with 6GB of RAM, while the iPhone 15 Pro is believed to launch with 8GB of RAM. Furthermore, this is not the first time all three of these features have been rumored. Previously, we had even covered similar reports from ShrimpApplePro and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Jeff Pu stated that the iPhone 15 Pro models will also be powered by the new A17 Bionic chip that will be processed on the 3nm process from TSMC. </p>

<p>Notably, all of the four models in the iPhone 15 series is expected to feature USB Type C port and Qualcomm&#8217;s Snapdragon X70 model for 5G and LTE connectivity. Pu claims that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will also arrive with a periscope technology for improved optical zoom. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are also believed to feature a 48 megapixel primary rear camera similar to the iPhone 14 Pro models.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="768" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-1024x768.jpeg?x10805" alt="Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max" class="wp-image-497647" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-300x225.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-768x576.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-696x522.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-1068x801.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-560x420.jpeg 560w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-80x60.jpeg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max-265x198.jpeg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Apple-iPhone-14-Pro-Max.jpeg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>The report adds that Cirrus Logic has a <a href="https://s21.q4cdn.com/307563939/files/doc_financials/2023/q2/Q2-FY23-Shareholder-Letter.pdf">sent a letter to shareholders</a> this month in which the company said that it continues to engage with a &#8220;strategic customer&#8221; and expects to bring a new HPMS component to the smartphones market next year.</p>

<p>HPMS stands for Cirrus Logic&#8217;s high-performance mixed-signal chips, which include haptic drivers for the Taptic Engine used in Apple iPhones. Earlier, the company&#8217;s CEO John Forsyth had said that the timeframe for this new component coming to the market will be the &#8220;back half of next year,&#8221; which means the second half.</p>

<p>The launch of this new component in the later half of 2023 falls within the timeframe for the launch of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone-15-pro">iPhone 15 Pro models</a> from Apple, which should happen in September next year.</p>

<p>This new development regarding <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/10/28/iphone-15-will-reportedly-come-with-solid-state-power-and-volume-buttons/">touch-based buttons for the iPhones</a> comes just a month after well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature solid-state volume and power buttons. He added that the phones will be equipped with two additional Taptic Engines to provide haptic feedback to simulate the feeling of pressing the buttons.</p>
