While OnePlus initially launched only flagship phones during its initial years, it soon branched to mid range models to better appeal to a broader audience. Now, the latest entry in its Nord series might be in the works.

According to a new report, the Chinese smartphone maker is already working on a new successor called the Nord 3. Apparently, the device is currently under testing in India and carries the codename ‘Larry.’ In other words, this basically means that the new mid range smartphone will also enter into mass production soon, with its launch following after. As per the report, the brand might be announcing the Nord 3 model sometime in July 2023, since the older models were also released around the same period last year.

Nord 2T

Unfortunately, finer details regarding this handset is still unknown. Although, we can expect it to offer various improvements over the last generation. The Nord 2T was the last Nord series phone to launch in India and features a 6.43 inch AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. It was powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC and featured a triple camera setup on the rear with the primary camera being a Sony IMX766 sensor.

So, we can expect the company to opt for a newer generation MediaTek chipset with the successor as well as some improvements in the camera department as well. It is also likely that the brand only offers an incremental upgrade along with an overhauled design for the Nord series. Keep in mind that this is still just speculation so take this news with a pinch of salt and stick around for more updates.

Now, the iPhone 14 models have reportedly entered the EVT phase.

For those who are unaware, EVT stands for Engineering Validation Test. The development comes from Haitong International Securities’ analyst Jeff Pu and was reported by 9to5Mac.

As per the report, the lockdown in Shenzhen, China has not impacted the production timeline for the company as the Foxconn factory in that particular location accounts for only 10 percent of the global iPhone production.

Given the iPhone 14 series has entered the Engineering Validation Test, it implies that the company has locked down the final design as well the specifications for the models. The test is to ensure that the product performs and looks as intended.

If the recently leaked schematics for the iPhone 14 Pro series models are anything to go by, then the company will have minor changes in terms of design, which should not be visible to the naked eye. However, the camera bump is said to be a bit thicker as Apple is opting for a larger 48MP camera sensor instead of the regular 12MP.

The Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera as well as the Face ID. These models will also be powered by the Apple A16 or A16 Pro Bionic chip manufactured using a 4nm process.

On the other hand, the regular iPhone 14 and 14 Max are said to keep using the notch on the top of the screen and be powered by the Apple A15 Bionic or the A16 Bionic which will just be a rebranded A15 processor.

In the latest update, the company has now started testing a new in-app business directory feature. As the name indicates, it’s basically a business directory that will allow users to find shops and services through the app.

Currently, the feature is undergoing the testing phase in São Paulo, Brazil. The test would include thousands of businesses in categories like food, retail, and local services across certain São Paulo neighborhoods. The company is looking to soon expand the feature to users in India and Indonesia.

Users can tap on ‘Businesses Nearby’ in the WhatsApp contact listing, which will then show a listing of active local business profiles. From there, users will be able to tap through and view the business’ full profile, along with products and other contact information.

This feature is yet another one from Facebook to make the e-commerce system on WhatsApp stronger as the social media giant is working hard to convert the messaging platform into an e-commerce juggernaut. WhatsApp has already launched shopping tools like product catalogs and shopping carts.

Facebook acquired WhatsApp in 2014 in a deal worth $19 billion but the platform didn’t have a model to monetize its millions of daily active users. The company is now looking at different ways to generate revenue but hasn’t ruled out in-app advertisements.

The company is now moving a step closer with its smart car in the United States.

Baidu has received permission to test its fully autonomous vehicles without a safety driver in California. With this, the company has become the sixth one to receive permission to test driverless cars.

The Chinese company had first received permission to test autonomous vehicles, with safety drivers, in 2016. With this new permission, the company can now test three driverless vehicles in Sunnyvale, located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

It now plans to start testing its autonomous vehicles — Lincoln MKZ and Chrysler Pacifica, day and night within Sunnyvale. However, the company has not yet revealed a timeframe about when it will actually start testing.

In China, Baidu has been testing autonomous vehicles without a safety driver in Beijing and Changsha since last year. Last year, AutoX, another Chinese company, was given permission to start testing driverless cars in California.

Baidu has been focusing a lot on its automotive business. Recently, the company partnered with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, which is China’s largest private automotive group, to make electric cars in China.

According to the video, Xiaomi Lab prepares and tests 200 smartphones for a continuous one month long test before the model is made available for the market. The smartphones undergo the long test to ensure stability and root out any issues that might surface in any device after longer periods of use. According to Lei Jun, innovation is productivity and quality is the lifeline.

In other words, while innovation is what brings the first round of success, quality assurance and management is just as important as a factor. This holds even more emphasis when considering the huge investments that the company makes, so there are no shortcuts. The senior official also added that the company plans on “conquering” the world with quality products.

One could look at the Redmi Note 7 as a great example of the company’s philosophy. It was one of the first smartphones launched after the subsidiary company’s independence. The device had arrived with an 18 month warranty, which was unheard of in the industry, and thanks to the company’s focus on quality, the device sold 20 million units in just seven months.
