<p>Xiaomi took to <a href="https://weibo.com/1771925961?refer_flag=1001030103_" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Weibo</a> (a Chinese microblogging site) to announce the specification of its upcoming Xiaomi 12&#8217;s front camera which is revealed to be a 32MP sensor. But that&#8217;s not all as the front camera also features a native beauty filter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-433094" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-front-camera.png?x10805" alt="Xiaomi 12 front camera" width="555" height="471" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-front-camera.png 632w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-front-camera-300x254.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Xiaomi-12-front-camera-495x420.png 495w" sizes="(max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px" /></p>
<p>According to Xiaomi, this beauty filter uses an Advanced pixel-level skin rejuvenation based on a generative adversarial network (GAN), which reconstructs the skin details on a pixel level to give the skin a fresh, younger look.</p>
<p>For those unaware, Generative adversarial networks (GANs) are algorithmic architectures that use two neural networks, pitting one against the other (thus the “adversarial”) in order to generate new, synthetic instances of data that can pass for real data. They are used widely in image generation, video generation, and voice generation.</p>
<p>Xiaomi had earlier announced that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered Xiaomi 12 and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Xiaomi-12-Pro" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Xiaomi 12 Pro</a> will be released together on December 28th. The former will be featuring a 1080p 6.28-inch display and will be the first compact flagship from the company in quite a long time. Both of the models are also rumored to be joined by the Xiaomi 12X and the MIUI 13 software skin.</p>

While we don&#8217;t expect the flagship smartphone to launch until next year, we recently saw the camera specs of the Xiaomi 12 leaked. The phone has again featured in a new leak.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-3.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-409702" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-3.png?x10805" alt="Xiaomi 12" width="598" height="433" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-3.png 598w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-3-300x217.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-3-324x235.png 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-3-580x420.png 580w" sizes="(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></a></p>
<p>What is believed to be a fan-made concept render of the Xiaomi 12 was recently shared by a Weibo user. The render reveals only the back aspect of the device but it shows a spectacular camera design. The cameras are housed in a rather weird-looking module which is shaped like the letter M. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-409700" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi 12" width="690" height="1066" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-194x300.jpg 194w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-663x1024.jpg 663w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/xiaomi-12-272x420.jpg 272w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p>The render has already been dismissed by Xiaomi&#8217;s PR head as unattractive. However, there are fans who think the design could find its way into the 12, denoting the first letter of the &#8220;Mi&#8221; brand. That argument looks dead on arrival since Xiaomi has already announced it will be dropping the Mi branding. Also, we think the camera design isn&#8217;t something Xiaomi will consider on its flagship.</p>
<p>The recent Xiaomi 12 leak touts the device as featuring a 200MP primary sensor as well as an ultra-wide sensor and a macro camera in a triple camera arrangement. The render envisions a quad camera setup marshaled by a 108MP main sensor.</p>
<p>We expect much more details to emerge in the coming months.</p>
