Xiaomi went official with the Mi 6X in China on April 25 and the device has been on sale since then. While we await the global launch of the device which is believed to adopt the name Mi A2, the tech giant has announced that a new variant will be joining the fray tomorrow (April 30).

The Mi 6X launch was a no holds barred launch so we don’t expect to see a variant with a new design or different hardware. The poster shows that the device still packs a Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset as well as a 20MP selfie camera plus a 20MP main sensor at the rear. However, the new variant is suspected to be a new storage variant. The Mi 6X was announced with three variants 4GB+64GB, 6GB+64GB, and 6GB+128GB. Now, the new variant is likely a 4GB RAM + 32GB storage version with the attendant lower price tag.

This looks like the best possible scenario and it is backed by the TENAA listing of the Mi 6X which had a 4GB + 32GB version alongside the other memory versions.  It could as well be a new colour variant but the Mi 6X is already available in an array of colours including favourites like red, pink, gold and black. Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its new smartphone — Xiaomi Mi 6X, which is the successor of Mi 5X. The international variant of the same could be named Mi A2 — the successor of the Mi A1 Android One smartphone. The phone has been subject to several leaks, including specs, renders, etc.

While we recently reported that the Mi 6X could be powered by MediaTek’s new Helio P60 chipset, a new report claims that the phone will not be powered by the Helio P60 processor.

Recently, the Mi 6X appeared in a TENAA listing, which revealed that the phone will be powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core processor. Our guess is that it will pack the Snapdragon 630 or Snapdragon 660 as they are both clocked at 2.2GHz.

Further, the listing reveals that the phone will come in two variants based on the memory configuration — 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage. While the leaked images related to the smartphone suggests dual camera setup at the back, the TENAA listing only lists one 20MP camera sensor on the back. On the front side, it is expected to feature a 20MP snapper.

Recently, Mishaal Rahman of XDA-Developers suggested that on the back side, the primary sensor will be Sony IMX486 while the secondary camera sensor will be Sony IMX376. On the front side, the company is expected to have the same Sony IMX376 lens.

The smartphone will flaunt a 5.99-inch display with 2160 x 1080 pixels screen resolution. It will have a full-screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio and thankfully without a notch on the top of the display, which seems to be the trend nowadays.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X is expected to be running Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box, with the company’s own MIUI on top. However, the international model of the same, which could be called Mi A2, will run stock Android Oreo as Xiaomi’s A-series is a part of Google‘s Android One program.

The smartphone will be powered by a 2,910mAh battery. It will come in various color options, including Black, Rose Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, and Silver. While the launch date is not yet known, we expect the device to get launched by the end of this month or early next month.

A fortnight ago, a phone by the name “Xiaomi Jason” was seen on benchmarking site, GFXBench. The device boasts an interesting combination of features that comfortably puts it in the top tier mid-range category. Xiaomi hasn’t said anything about a new mid-range phone but new reports say the phone may launch as the Xiaomi Mi 6X.

Although Xiaomi’s CEO had initially debunked tales of a “Youth Version” of the Mi 6, the appearance of the Snapdragon 660-powered device says otherwise. OPPO is preparing to launch the OPPO R11 this week, the first Snapdragon 660 smartphone in the world, and other manufacturers surely wouldn’t want to be left out of the mid-range race.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X, apart from featuring a Snapdragon 660 chip will have a 4MP front camera and a 12MP shooter on the back. Like the base variant of the Mi 6, it will have 6GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage and will be priced around ¥1999 (~$295).

The Mi 6X is slated for an August release. That’s still a while from now and there is a chance other SD660 phones would have been released by then. There is also a possibility, Xiaomi may decide to release the Mi 6X with its Surge S2 processor, probably as another variant.

The above info hasn’t been confirmed yet, so we advise you take it with a pinch of salt.
