Xpeng Takes on Tesla in Europe with Launch of P7 Sedan and G9 SUV

Chinese automaker Xpeng had a rough year in 2022. The company’s sales failed to meet expectations and its share price plummeted by 81.34%. However, Chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, recently sent a letter to its employees promising to end the bad course. It seems that Xiaopeng is determined to keep that promise. Chinese electric vehicle startup launched its P7 sedan and G9 Sports SUV in Europe. Here are the details…

Xpeng launches flagship EVs in Europe in international push

Xpeng, has launched its P7 sedan and G9 sports SUV in Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, and Sweden, as part of its international expansion efforts. The P7 sedan is priced lower than Tesla’s Model 3 Long Range in the four countries. It has starting price of 49,990 euros ($54,917) for a range of 576 kilometers on a single charge.

Xpeng is pushing aggressively into international markets. The Chinese electric car start-up launched its P7 sedan and G9 SUV in Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden.

The G9 SUV is priced higher than Tesla’s Model Y Long Range, with a range of 570 kilometers on a single charge and a starting price of 57,990 euros in the Netherlands. Xpeng faces tuff competition in Europe, not just from Tesla but also from other Chinese automakers and European giants like Volkswagen.

However, Xpeng isn’t the only Chinese manufacturer on the market.Chinese rival Nio has already started deliveries in Norway. Xpeng has accelerated its international push in recent years, with physical stores in Europe and the launch of its mass-market P5 sedan. However, supply chain issues have suspended the start of sales for the P5.

XPENG G9 flagship electric SUV launched in China starting at 309,900 yuan ($43,960)

Chinese EV manufacturer XPENG has released the pricing and other specs details of its G9 Flagship SUV for its home market. The fourth-generation G9 lineup has three series with different driving range configurations. The models are the RWD 570G, RWD 570E, RWD 702E, 4WD Performance 650E, 4WD Performance 650X, and a Launch Edition 650X. The lineup feature the world’s fastest-charging electric vehicle and are built on China’s first mass-produced 800V platform.

The 4WD Performance 650E and 650X models are equipped with a dual-chamber air suspension system as a standard. In addition to its fast charging capabilities, the G9 is equipped with the EV industry’s first full-scenario Advanced Driver Assistance System. The driving experience is further accentuated by the dual-chamber air suspension system and a luxurious smart cabin capable of delivering 5D-level music and overall infotainment onboard. The groundbreaking 5F music system is called Xopera.

The G9 reflects an elegant design, a fusion of many tech innovations and is coming after 8 years of rigorous development and testing. XPENG aims to see the G9 as a new benchmark for smart EVs and a stop-gap in the pursuit of fully autonomous EVs. The G9’s new powertrain system offers greater width with supercharging capabilities that can deliver up to 200km of driving range on a five-minute charge. This means that the G9 models can be charged fully under 30 minutes, which is truly groundbreaking. XPENG is also rapidly expanding its network of charging stations across China to service even third-party EVs with its superior charging infrastructure.

The G9 lineup offers a maximum range of 702km from the SUV class, while the lowest is 460km, which is also decent for urban commutes. The models deploy the drag-reducing styling and a combination of technologies to make its usable range to be up to 10% higher than other EVs. The Four-Zone Always-on Voice Assistant and 3D UI featured in the G9 are other industry benchmarks set by the EV. The price range for the G9 lineup in China is between 309,900 yuan ($46,960) and 469,900 yuan ($66,656). The first deliveries are expected in October, according to XPENG.

Xpeng G9 SUV launched with XPILOT 4.0 ADAS, offers 200km range in just 5 minutes of charge

Xpeng Motors has just launched its new G9 Flagship Smart SUV. The company had teased the electric vehicle earlier this month and had now officially unveiled the car, which features its XPILOT 4.0 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).

The G9 SUV was announced earlier today (19th November 2021) during the ongoing Auto Guangzhou 2021 event and feature the Chinese EV maker’s cutting edge software architecture and hardware platform. Notably, the G9 is the fourth production model from the brand and boasts various international safety and environmental standards as well. Although, one of its highlighting features is the XPILOT 4.0 ADAS. It is also the first production model from the brand to feature this system.

For those unaware, XPILOT 4.0 is a full scenario driver assistance system, which is the step towards a fully autonomous driving. According to He Xiaopeng, CEO and Chairman of Xpeng, “Our G9 flagship smart SUV represents a new level of sophistication with a global perspective, and is an essential part of our exploration of smarter, safer, greener and sustainable mobility.” It is built with C-NCAP and E-NCAP 5-star safety design standards and has a reusability rate of over 85 percent and recyclable rate of over 95%.

Looking at its design, the G9 SUV features a “minimalist, superior and pioneering styling,” with its front profile featuring the recognizable XPENG X Robot Face. The company has also integrated two LiDAR sensor directly into the headlights, which works with the driver assistance technology. In other words, the car cleverly combines cutting edge technology with its elegant design. Other notable aspects include rear slant A pillars, short front overhand, long rear overhang, 21 inch wheels, and an overall luxurious build on the inside as well.

The G9 will be China’s first model to feature a Gigabit Ethernet communications architecture, which would boost its support for advanced driver assistance, smart cockpit, and firmware OTA upgrades. Through this, the automaker claims that the G9 will be able to receive FOTA (firmware over the air) updates in just 30 minutes. The car runs the brand’s X-EEA 3.0 architecture, which is a proprietary EV platform that enables the G9 to perform “self diagnostics and greatly improving vehicle safety.”

Lastly, the G9 SUV boasts the next gen XPower 3.0 powertrain system, which is China;s first 800V high voltage mass production SiC platform. This enables the EV to charge up to 200 km in range in just 5 minutes, with its maximum energy efficiency being over 95 percent. Unfortunately, the brand still refrained from revealing the entire specifications of the car, like range estimates, pricing, and more. Although, more information is expected to be revealed soon as the company is apparently looking at a Q3 2022 launch.
