Yesterday, Vivo announced the Vivo XPlay 5 flagship which turned out to be the first 6GB RAM smartphone. The phone features pretty powerful specifications along with smart software to ensure the best performance. In the looks department as well, the phone is pretty impressive. It features a dual curved edge display, similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge in an all metal body that accounts for nearly 98% metal.

The body is made out of aluminum-magnesium alloy with a lot of processing on it like zirconium sanding, double c-cut edges, single crystal diamond mirror coating etc. The phone is pretty slim as well, featuring a 7.59mm body. There are two color options available namely champagne gold and rose gold.

As for the specs, the phone comes with a Super AMOLED 5.43-inch display with 2K resolution. Under the hood, there’s 4GB/ 6GB RAM options and SD652 / SD820 CPU depending on the variant. The Elite version features the much powerful SD820. For storage, you get 128GB which is more than enough for your everyday needs.

At the back, there’s a Sony IMX298 sensor with electronic OIS and dual tone flash. Front features an 8MP shooter. Despite its thin size, the company has managed to fit in a large 3600mAh battery with twin charging chips. Finally, there are Hi-Fi chips on both the variants to ensure that the audio output is top-notch.

There’s no doubt that this is a powerful handset. The standard XPlay 5 version starts at 3698 Yuan ($564) while the Elite version retails for 4288 Yuan which is close to $654.

It looks like nearly two years of waiting for the Vivo XPlay 5 flagship was totally worth it. A few minutes ago, Vivo confirmed via its official weibo page that its upcoming Vivo XPlay 5 flagship will feature a whopping 6GB of RAM onboard. Yes, this is not a typo, and it’s confirmed directly by the company. So, on March 1, at Beijing’s Water Cube Convention Center, we will probably meet the world’s first 6GB RAM smartphone (unless Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a 6GB version).

The Vivo XPlay 5 will really mark a new era of powerful smartphones with 6GB of RAM. Last year, we reported that Samsung’s new age DRAM chips made it possible for smartphones with 6GB of RAM. So, the RAM inside the Vivo flagship should be supplied by Samsung.

What’s more, you get the powerful Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor inside, which is once again confirmed by the company, to ensure that the phone performs better than most other flagships. Even the LG G5 and Galaxy S7 flagships which were announced yesterday came with just 4GB of RAM. So, Vivo seems to be have done a great job providing the additional 2GB RAM on board the XPlay 5 handset.

As for the specs, it’s confirmed that the phone will feature a dual edge display, probably with 2K resolution. Other rumored specs include a large 6-inch screen, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front camera and a 4300mAh battery. Given that Vivo has decided to reveal its important features via teasers ahead of its release, we can expect most of these specs to be confirmed before Vivo XPlay 5 releases officially.

The company is all set to announce the device on March 1, which is a week away. So, after the exciting series of announcements at MWC 2016, we will meet the powerful XPlay 5.

Its been a long time since Vivo updated its XPlay lineup with a new device. But that’s going to change soon since the company has started releasing teasers for the same. Yesterday, we guessed that the upcoming Vivo device would be called as the Vivo XPlay 5. Now, the company has confirmed this name along with an important feature of the device.

Vivo has confirmed that the Vivo XPlay 5 will come with a borderless design. So, it looks like the flagship will come with dual curved screens. We should have actually guessed it from yesterday’s teaser itself. However at that time, we assumed the teaser showed off the top of the smartphone. But now, with the dual curved screen design confirmed, we can actually see that the teaser yesterday had already hinted about this feature.

The dual curved screen panel would most likely be from Samsung since industry chain sources had earlier revealed that the South Korean giant had improved the production capacity of its panels and was ready to supply it to domestic manufacturers. It looks like Vivo could be the first company outside of Samsung to use this curved screen panel.

While dual curved screen display would be the selling point of the device, yesterday’s Vivo XPlay 5 specs leak revealed a lot many other interesting features. It is said that the phone will come with the fast Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset along with 6GB of RAM. This would make it the first phone with such a large RAM memory. Other rumored specs include a 6-inch 2K display, 4000mAh battery and Hi-Fi audio.

Vivo is really taking things to the next level with its XPlay 5 flagship. So, it looks like two years of waiting might very well be worth it. This could also pave the way for other manufacturers to release dual curved screen flagships. We have already heard rumors about Xiaomi and Huawei developing curved screen devices and we could see them sometime this year.
