Mediatek revealed its newest open-sourced platform, the Linkit, in a computer exposition in Taipei. The Linkit runs on the Aster chip. It is also made using a complete referential design, and is provided with a high-level microprocessor and communication module. The Aster is a very small specialized portable SoC that is prepared for all kinds of online functions. It supports the newest OTA applications and algorithms. Hardware development kits will also be provided to third-party applications. The platform also provides insertible software kits for Arduino and Visual Studio. The simplification of the process behind developing the Linkit platform should push Mediatek’s rivals to develop more customized products.
