A few weeks ago, Samsung released its latest upper-midrange phone: the Galaxy M52 5G. It is the successor of the Samsung Galaxy M51 and it brings several improvements to the shelves, but its predecessor has still much to say even a year after its release. Despite its very affordable street prices, the Samsung Galaxy M51 remains one of the best battery phones out there and it offers a better camera experience than the new Galaxy M52 5G. These are the reason why the Galaxy M51 may still offer a higher value to several users. And this is the reason why we decided to publish a comparison between Samsung Galaxy M52 5G and Samsung Galaxy M51 highlighting the differences between their specifications.

Design

If we only consider the look of these two devices, the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G looks more beautiful. Its camera module is more minimalistic, the design is thinner and lighter. Both the phones are made of polycarbonate and both come with a single punch hole placed centrally on the display. The screen to body ratio is similar, with narrow bezels on all the sides. The Samsung Galaxy M51 offers something more in terms of build quality because its front glass is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3+, but if we exclude this, there are no important differences when it comes to the build quality.

Display

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G and Samsung Galaxy M51 are equipped with Super AMOLED Plus displays sporting a diagonal of 6.7 inches and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. The image quality is exactly the same and the displays do not come with embedded fingerprint readers. The fingerprint readers are placed at the sides, on the power keys. The only difference between the displays is the refresh rate: the new Samsung Galaxy M52 5G has a 120 Hz refresh rate, while the Galaxy M51 has a standard 60 Hz refresh rate. So, with the Galaxy M52 5G, you can get a smoother viewing experience and it will be useful especially if you are a gamer.

Specs & Software

The 5G connectivity is one of the most important differences between Samsung Galaxy M52 5G and Galaxy M51. On the former, you can get this connectivity, while the latter only supports 4G LTE. Further, the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G has a stronger processor: the Snapdragon 778G mobile platform running at a max frequency of 2.4 GHz, way better than the Snapdragon 730G found on the Galaxy M51. The memory configurations are the same: you can choose 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The internal storage is expandable through a micro SD slot. Note that Samsung Galaxy M52 5G ships with Android 11 out of the box, while Galaxy M51 runs Android 10: with the newer model, you would get longer software support.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G has the same main camera as the Galaxy M51: a 64 MP sensor with an f/1.8 focal aperture. On both the phones, the main camera is paired with a 12 MP ultrawide lens and a 5 MP macro camera, but the Galaxy M51 adds a 5 MP depth sensor making its camera setup more versatile. Further, the Samsung Galaxy M51 has a better front camera: we are talking about a 32 MP sensor with an f/2.0 focal aperture and 4K video recording.

Battery

Besides providing a better camera setup, the Samsung Galaxy M51 also comes with a bigger battery and it can achieve a longer battery life. With a whopping 7000 mAh of capacity, the Galaxy M51 is one of the best battery phones in the market and it can also be used as a power bank thanks to reverse charging.

Price

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G debuted in the Indian market with a starting price tag of Rs. 25,999 / $345, while the Galaxy M51 was priced at Rs. 19,999 / $265, but it is currently available at more affordable prices because it is one year old. If we exclude the battery, the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G is a way better phone, but it is more expensive. Which one would you pick?
