by Jeet 4

Xiaomi has today launched a new cheaper variant of its premium med-range smartphone — Mi Note 3. The new model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. Earlier, the device was available in 6GB of RAM with 64GB/128GB storage.

Last month, Xioami had launched a cheaper variant of its flagship smartphone — Mi 6 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The standard variant of this smartphone too features 6GB of RAM.

This new model of Mi Note 3 comes with the the same set of specifications as the standard model, except the memory configuration. The phone is priced at 1,999 Yuan (~ $302) and will go on sale in Xiaomi‘s home country, i.e. China, from Thursday.

While the company has launched a cheaper variant, the company recently reduced the prices of the other variants of the Mi Note 3 smartphone. After the price cut, the 6GB RAM with 64GB internal storage model is available at 2,299 Yuan while the 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage model is priced at 2,699 Yuan.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 smartphone features a 5.5-inch Full HD display with screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and pixel density of 403PPI. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, clocked at 2.2GHz. With the introduction on this new model, it now has two options when it comes to RAM — 4GB/6GB LPDDR4x RAM.

The smartphone sports a dual camera setup at the back, same as the Mi 6. It comes with a 12-megapixel primary sensor, coupled with wide-angel lens, f/1.8 aperture while the secondary camera comes with  12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens. There is also 16-megapixel front-facing camera.

The camera offers 2x optical zoom as well as phase detection autofocus (PDAF) apart from 4K video capture support. The front-facing camera has an AI-based beautification feature and also supports facial recognition unlocking.

Additional features of the Mi Note 3 include NFC, IR port, under-glass fingerprint, stereo speakers, and USB Type-C port. The smartphone is powered by a 3,500mAh battery which also supports fast charging.

Recently, Xiaomi launched a special edition model — The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 Wu Yifan Limited Edition, to celebrate the birthday of Chinese-Canadian actor and singerKris Wu a.k.a. Wu Yifan, who is Xiaomi’s brand ambassador.

Lately, Xiaomi has launched a bunch of new smartphones. A few months ago, the company launched Mi A1 — Xiaomi’s first Android One smartphone. Recently, it launched Redmi Y series with the launch of Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite — a range of smartphones that focuses on selfie camera.

However, launching new devices has worked in favour of the company as most of these devices have been well-received by the users. This helped the company to become the leading smartphone vendor in India, along with Samsung.

    So, it’s the cheapest A73-based-ip-integrated phone ?
I think it was worth buying if we could see this spec&price 6 months ago or even 3 months ago.
It’s disappointing because when we first heard about s660 in January, it was rumored to be a midrange which will replace s652.
But the price tag never dropped to “midrange” until now.
And now its both ip and process rules are outdated.
I’m not criticising this phone, I even think that it’s the best s660 phone to buy.
I ‘m just disappointed because we expected to see this chip on RN5, MiMax2, RedmiPro2, etc …

I agree with you, the Mi Note 3 is the best SD660 phone to get in the market. I am really mad at me because I recently missed a flash sale on Gearbest website where the base model 6/64GB was sold around 278€. Currently, they sell the 128GB variant at 307€ but I am hesitating to get it because I do not need 128GB storage. What do you think about RAM capacity, is it worth to pay more money to get the 6GB RAM version? IMO 4GB RAM is more than enough for 99% of the users.

I need to get a new phone and can’t wait anymore for the RN5 which will be released in coming weeks. Moreover, the RN5 will be sold around 230$+ on resellers websites. I guess that considering that the Mi Note 3 got a price cut it is probably better to spend more money to get the Mi Note 3 instead of the RN5. The 4GB variant will be cheaper than the 6GB ram variant. At the end, you get a flaghip phone with a nice build quality, faster/efficient CPU and excellent camera if you use google camera app. You can keep it for at least 3 years if you take care of it well.

I’m currently using Mi5 3/32GB version but I’ve never felt it’s lacking RAM. Of course it depends on how you use, but still as you said 4GB is more than enough for 99% of the users.
Personally, I’m looking forward to wait for the new ip-cores A55/A75 which I believe it’ll come next year. s845 is said to be the first pairing those cores, but I’ll wait for a midrange one. Down-clocked A75+A55 (maybe s680?) or A55 octa is ok too.

Anyway If you cannot wait and you need to buy a new phone immediately I think MiNote3 is one of the best choice. But I think we need to wait several days to see 4GB version on resellers websites.

You are right the 4GB Ram version of the Mi Note 3 will be available on resellers websites in coming weeks. That being said, Giztop has the phone listed on their website at a price around 270€. I missed the 6GB Ram version a few days ago at 278€ on Gearbest website. I mean that if I find the 4GB Ram version at 250 I will buy it instantly. If Gearbest make another flash sale for the 6GB Ram version I will buy it. Like you, I would love to wait for the new CPUs but I need a phone urgently. Peace!
