OPPO is following the steps of its sister company Vivo. The latter was the first manufacturer to release a phone with an in-display fingerprint scanner but OPPO may be joining the ranks soon.

OPPO has received a patent approval from China’s State Intellectual Property Office for an in-display fingerprint scanner. Photos from the patent documents show that the fingerprint scanner doesn’t only unlock the device but can be used when the phone is unlocked too which may mean support for payments too.

The fingerprint recognition area is pretty small compared to the one on the Vivo Apex.

There is no information regarding which of OPPO’s upcoming devices will first have this feature. Some have said it may be the OPPO Find 9 if that is still in development but the more plausible device will be the OPPO R15s.
