Earlier this year, Xiaomi became the first smartphone manufacturer to launch a device powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 processor — Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. Later, a couple of devices powered by the same processor got launched, namely Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, Asus Zenfone 5, and Meizu E3.

Now, Xiaomi is again so to be working on a smartphone that is powered by Qualcomm‘s upcoming yet announced chipset — Snapdragon 638, which is expected to be an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 636 SoC.

The China-based company is reportedly working on a smartphone codenamed “Valentino”, which has now surfaced on a benchmarking website Geekbench. The phone’s listing on Geekbench reveals that the device is powered by SDM638 processor, which is clocked at 1.44GHz and has octa-core CPU.

The listing further reveals that the device packs 6GB RAM and is running on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. It has managed to 1485 points in Geekbench’s single-core test and 5440 points in the multi-core test.

While nothing is yet known about this Snapdragon 638 chipset, it appears that the single-core score of the chipset is higher than the Snapdragon 650 and slightly lower than the Snapdragon 820. The chipset is expected to come equipped with Adreno 509 or higher GPU.

At Mobile World Congress this year, Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon 700 series for processors, bringing on-device artificial intelligence thanks to Qualcomm’s AI Engine, along with improvements to the camera, device performance, and power consumption.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is currently set to launch its new Redmi S-series smartphone — Redmi S2 on 10th May. The smartphone seems to be focusing on the camera capabilities, as the company has already confirmed that the device will come with an AI Portrait mode as well as AI beauty feature.

According to the previous leaks, Xiaomi Redmi S2 packs Snapdragon 625 chipset and the device will be available in three variants based on memory configuration — 2GB RAM, 3GB RAM and 4GB RAM and 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options.

On the rear side, the phone is said to have a dual camera setup with a 12MP + 5MP combo while for selfies, the device will feature a big 16MP sensor. It will be running Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5 out-of-the-box and will be powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
