The Redmi S2 was announced last week and the new smartphone is being touted as a selfie king. For those who live in India and are wondering when it will arrive, it may be launching sooner than expected.
Xiaomi’s Global VP and MD of Xiaomi India – Manu Kumar Jain, has revealed in a tweet that the Redmi S2 is coming to India. Although he doesn’t explicitly mention the Redmi S2, he refers to it as the “BEST selfie phone”. Seeing as Xiaomi is marketing its new phone using the same words, it’s just a matter of putting 2 and 2 together.

He also mentions Xiaomi is the top smartphone brand (in India) for the 3rd quarter running according to IDC and reveals the company has moved to a new office.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 is a 5.99” phone with an HD+ resolution. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage. It also has a dedicated SIM slot.

The phone’s selling point is its 16MP front-facing camera with its large 2μm pixel size and AI features. It also has 12MP + 5MP dual cameras on the back, a fingerprint scanner, face unlock, and a 3080mAh battery.
Note that the company highlights ‘Y’ in the teaser video. It should be a good indication that the Redmi S2 would launch as a Y series smartphone in India, maybe as the Redmi Y2.
The phone will launch in India on June 7.
