Qualcomm has announced a new chipset for Bluetooth earphones. The new QCC3026 audio SoC is targeted at headsets in the entry-level and mid-range category.
QCC3026 has a bunch of features such as Bluetooth 5.0, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Dual-mode Bluetooth. It also has aptX playback and voice assistant support. Qualcomm says power consumption in the new chipset is 50% less compared to that in older headsets.
The chipset has made its way into its first device – the OPPO O-Free Wireless earphones. Although the O-Free are a bit pricey at ¥699 (~$106), cheaper earphones with the SoC should be announced soon.
Qualcomm has had an interesting week so far. It first announced the Snapdragon 632, Snapdragon 439, and Snapdragon 429 mobile chipsets. It then followed it with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2500 smartwatch SoC.
