Huawei will be attending this year’s edition of IFA which begins on August 31 and will run till September 5. Huawei will most likely not be announcing any new phones but it sure will take the wraps off its latest flagship processor, the Kirin 980, and a new video teaser from the manufacturer further confirms this.

Huawei Kirin 980 IFA launch

The 7-second video was uploaded on Weibo today and it reveals Huawei will have a live event on the first day of the trade show. While the video doesn’t explicitly mention that the Kirin 980 will be announced, one can see the shape of a chipset in the video.

The Kirin 980 will appear first in the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro set to launch in October. The new chipset will also appear in other Huawei and Honor flagships such as the Honor V11/View 11 and the Huawei P30 series which launches next year.

The Kirin 980 will be Huawei’s first 7nm chipset and will be made up of four Cortex A76 cores and four Cortex A55 cores. It will come with a Mali GPU and a newer version of its NPU. Its clock speed is said to be about 2.8GHz. The SoC will go up against other 7nm chipsets such as Apple‘s own A12 and Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 855.
