As expected, Xiaomi today unveiled its latest smartphone — Mi 8 Lite. The company has opted for the all-glass body for the smartphone with 2.5D curved glass, which gives it a more premium feel.

Further, Xiaomi says that the Mi 8 Lite has a unique mirror effect which is derived through the use of “mirror nano vacuum sputtering” technology, through the nano-sputtering of 2.5D glass in a vacuum environment.

Xiaomi says that the design for the Mi 8 Lite is inspired by the works of French Impressionist Oscar-Claude Monet. For the first time, Xioami has introduced gradient color options for its smartphone.

It comes in two gradient colors — Dream Blue and Twilight Gold. There’s also the standard solid Deep Gray color variant with the same mirror-like effect.

Xiaomi, which started the trend of “Youth Edition” phones, believes that it’s competitors have also started following the same. At the launch event, the company compared the Mi 8 Lite with the recently launched iPhone XR, which Xiaomi says is the “Youth Edition” of iPhone.

The Chinese firm showcased that the Mi 8 Lite, which measures 7.5mm in thickness, is slimmer than the iPhone XR, Oppo R17, Vivo X23, and Huawei P20. It also doubled-down on its comparison with iPhone XR, showcasing the difference between bezels of both the phones as well as the size of the notch on top of the display.

The phone features dual-camera setup on the back, featuring 12MP – 5MP sensors with an LED flash, arranged horizontally and placed in the top-left corner. In the top-center position, there’s a fingerprint sensor for added security. Moving towards the bottom, there’s a “Mi” branding.

The volume rocker and power button are placed on the right side. On the bottom, there’s a USB Type-C port for charging as well as a speaker grille.

The front side of the phone is dominated by the 6.26-inch tall display, which has Full HD+ screen resolution with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The notch on top of the display houses the AI-backed 24MP camera for taking selfies and video calling.

The Mi 8 Lite is powered by Snapdragon 660 AIE processor, coupled with either 4GB or 6GB RAM. There’s 64GB/128GB internal storage. Running on Android Oreo-based MIUI, the phone is powered by a 3,350mAh battery.

 

 

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite comes with a starting price of 1,399 Yuan (approximately $204) and will be up for pre-order from tonight. The company will start shipping the phone from 25th September.
