Vulkan is Qualcomm‘s latest 3D graphics API. It was released as a successor to OpenGL. The new API is present in Adreno 5xx and Adreno 6xx GPUs and brings high-performance graphics to mobiles.
One of the advantages of the Vulkan API is that it is multi-threading friendly, unlike OpenGL. It does this by “providing a buffer system that can leverage all CPU cores to submit tasks to the GPU and perform memory operations”. The Vulkan API also makes cross-platform development between PC, consoles and mobile devices easier.
It turns out that Qualcomm has been working with game developers to optimize their games to take advantage of the new API. The result of one of the partnerships is an optimized version of the popular mobile game, King of Glory.
Qualcomm has released a list of supported devices that work with the new version of the game:
- Xiaomi – Mi MIX 3, Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi 8 Lite, mi 8, Mi 8 SE, Mi MIX 2S, Mi MIX 2, Mi Note 3, Redmi 6X, Redmi Note 5.
- OPPO – OPPO Find X
- OnePlus – OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T
- Vivo – Vivo Z3, Vivo X23
- Meizu – Meizu X8
Qualcomm has said that the list of supported devices will be continually updated.
