HMD Global is sure having a great time in its bid to revive the once ailing Nokia brand so far, the Finnish company has been successful in its mission. Apart from releasing good smartphones, the company is also ensuring it offers fans regular software updates. Thus, the new Nokia X7 that was announced in China about this time last month is now set to get updated to Android Pie.

Nokia X7 will launch outside China as the Nokia 8.1

The Nokia X7 moniker is exclusive to China while the global version is tipped to launch as Nokia 7.1 Plus in no distant time. So, this article is about the China-exclusive mode which came running Android 8.1 Oreo under Google’s Android One program. There are indications that HMD has started recruiting beta testers for the Nokia X7 to try out an early version of the Android 9.0 Pie update.

The recruitment is carried out on the company’s Weibo account and is open to persons who are running the official launch software and have never unlocked or rooted the model. Since this is an early build, intending testers are adviced to back up their data in case something goes wrong. As stated before, this is a closed beta so, testers are even required to sign a confidentiality agreement. We expect the company to launch a broader open beta testing programme that would accommodate more persons and would eventually give birth to the release of a stable ROM. The early update also implies that when the model is launched for the global market, it wouldn’t take long before getting Android Pie update.
