Earlier this year, ASUS had launched the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z with notched displays to provide users with larger screen space. Few months ago, multiple prototypes of the ZenFone 6 had surfaced to reveal that the Taiwanese company is considered different kinds of in-screen camera display hole designs for it. Lets Go Digital has today revealed that the company has patented new designs for smartphones to provide higher screen space to its users.

In August, ASUS had filed several design patens with European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). On Dec. 22 and Dec. 23, those patents were published to reveal the various smartphone designs that the company may use for its upcoming smartphones.

ASUS smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera is the newest design that the company has patented. The design patent reveals a smartphone with full screen design and a pop-up selfie snapper that is hidden inside the top edge of the device like the Vivo NEX smartphone. A speaker can be seen on the super-slim top bezel of the smartphone.

For the pop-up camera, the Taiwanese company has considered three different formats which includes a thin module for the front camera, a second one that is a bit wide which can accommodate more than one selfie camera and a third model featuring a wider module which can possibly accommodate multiple and advanced sensors for 3D face detection.

The second full screen design found in the patent documents is an in-screen camera hole as seen on recent smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy A8s and Huawei Nova 4. As it can be seen in the illustrations below, the new design features a small hole at the top-left corner of the display for the front-facing camera. The speaker is again placed on the ultra-thin upper bezel of the smartphone.

Popular YouTuber C4ETech had shared some prototype images in October which showed different placements for the front-facing camera. One of the images shared below suggested that the ZenFone 6 may sport a display similar to Galaxy A8s and Nova 4 phones. There were some other designs including the one shown in the below video:

ASUS is expected to announce the ZenFone 6 series at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 tech trade show in February this year. Probably, the ZenFone 6 and the successor of the ZenFone 5Z may sport any of the above shown display design.
