Xiaomi recently launched its latest smartphone dubbed Xiaomi Mi Play, making it the first smartphone in the company under its new Play lineup. The phone also became the world’s first smartphone to be powered by MediaTek Helio P35 chipset.
MediaTek’s latest chipset — Helio P35, was not separately launched by the company prior to the phone’s official announcement. However, we got to know more about the Helio P35 chipset when its details were shared on stage during the Mi Play launch.

Now, benchmark result of the MediaTek Helio P35 chipset has surfaced online, which got a score of 86,352 points, which is slightly better than Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 625. Even the company had claimed that the performance of Helio P35 is better than SD625. However, the benchmark score of the Helio P35 is still lower than Qualcomm’s latest mid-range chipset Snapdragon 636.
The MediaTek Helio P35 is an octa-core chipset built on TSMC’s advanced 12nm FinFET node. Its eight cores are all Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.3GHz. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 also uses the same type and number of cores but are clocked at 2.2GHz. However, the Helio P35 will be able to offer better performance and longer battery life because it is a 12nm chipset as against the Snapdragon 630’s 14nm design.
It comes with Imagination’s PowerVR GE8320 graphics processor, which is the same GPU inside the Helio P22 but it is clocked higher at 680MHz. According to the company, the Helio P35 supports FHD+ displays and 20:9 aspect ratio.
The chipset supports LPDDR3 and LPDDR4x RAM (4GB and 6GB) and eMMC 5.1 storage. It also supports dual 13MP cameras or a single 25MP camera. There’s also a hardware depth engine for professional-level bokeh images, Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) that erases “jello effect” when recording fast-moving objects.
The Helio P35 also supports AI-based Face ID (Face Unlock), smart photo album, and multi-frame noise reduction. As for connectivity, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, VoLTE, and ViLTE.

While it’s just Xiaomi Mi Play that is powered by Helio P35 SoC and the company has not yet revealed which manufacturers are set to launch devices powered by the same chipset. However, we expect devices from the likes of Oppo and Vivo to be powered by Helio P35 in the coming months.
