At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, OPPO had showcased a dual camera setup with 5x loseless zoom. Recently spotted patent documents have revealed that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is now working on a 10x hybrid optical zoom technology camera. According to popular tipster Ice Universe, an OPPO official has confirmed that the company will be showcasing the 10x zoom camera tech at the MWC 2019 tech expo in Barcelona, Spain in February.

The patent sketches have revealed a dual camera setup with a flash unit. Unfortunately, the patent documents that explain the hybrid zoom technology are not available. OPPO that has six research institutes and four R&D across the globe is known for providing innovative features on its smartphone. The OPPO Find X that released this year is the world’s first smartphone to feature a slide-out assembly for the front and rear cameras.

The 5x loseless zoom technology that OPPO had demonstrated at MWC last year include a dual camera module with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. The latter is hidden in the camera module in an innovate periscope-like structure. It also includes a prism to divert the light to the telephoto lens for deeper zoom. OPPO’s 5x loseless zoom technology is yet to be commercialized.

Rumors are rife that the 10x zoom camera technology by OPPO will be first seen on the OPPO F19 and F19 Pro smartphones. The F19 duo could be fueled by Snapdragon 675 chipset and a notch-less screen. Probably, the F19 models may feature an in-screen camera hole display.
