At the end of 2018, Vivo had released Android 9 Pie closed beta for few of it smartphones such as Vivo NEX S, NEX A, X21 UD and X21 in China. Since it was a closed beta update, it was made available for limited number of 5,000 users in the home market. With the beginning of year 2019, the Chinese manufacturer has now proclaimed the arrival of open beta update for aforementioned smartphones in the home country.

In order to receive the Android 9 Pie open beta, one needs to enroll for it. Users in China are required to download the official recruitment app from the company and install the latest edition of the FunTouch OS. Owners of Vivo NEX S, NEX A, X21 UD and X21 in China can enroll until Jan. 6. There is no limit on the number of recruits since it is an open beta update. The update will be pushed to the user from Jan. 8.

The size of the Android 9 Pie beta is 2.71 GB. It not only includes the latest version of Android, but also other goodies such as Jovi Smart Scene, Jovi Smart Voice Assistant, Jovi Wisdom Map, improved UI, game box, camera optimizations, and more. Apart from the ones mentioned above, Vivo is yet to confirm on the names of the other phones that will be treated with Android 9.0 Pie update.

Vivo had released around 30 smartphones in 2018. Among them, there are many low-budget phones. The Chinese manufacturer is likely to prioritize on the releasing the Android 9 Pie update first for its high-end phones from 2018. The Vivo NEX Dual Display smartphone that was unveiled in December 2018 is the first phone from the company to come preloaded with Android 9 Pie. In India, the Vivo V11 Pro has been one of the most search smartphones in 2018. Hopefully, the Android 9 Pie will be also available for it later this year.
