Qualcomm, a major chipset maker for smartphones, has designed a new SoC for entry-level devices. According to reports from a famous tipster, Qualcomm is currently working on a new chipset which could make its way to new Android Go devices. The new chip is set to part ways from its Snapdragon lineup and will be marketed as the Qualcomm Mobile 215 Platform.

Qualcomm Snapdragon

It seems to host the same base as like of the low-end Snapdragon chipsets attached with Quad core CPU arrangement. Internally, it will carry quad-core CPU clocked at 1.3 gigahertz and a GPU at 650 megahertz. It matches the architecture of the already present Snapdragon 410 and 425 chipsets. Moreover, it’s not clear whether the Qualcomm will build it using the 28 nm process or something else. Further, the source has not revealed any more details about the upcoming low-level QM215 chipset.

Qualcomm is testing some reference designs coupled with 1GB or 2GB LPDDR3 RAM and 8/16 GB storage. Huawei is testing the new chipset with a 720P+ display and fingerprint reader for its new device.

In detail, it seems that the new chipset is mainly designed for Android Go devices. These energy efficient chipsets can be a perfect match for the low-end devices. It will allow Android Go devices to be more energy efficient and more affordable. If things are right, the QM215 will feature in ultra-low-cost smartphones. These kinds of chipsets can better compete in the developing markets like India, South America, and a few other nations.

Although Qualcomm has not confirmed the existence of QM215. We expect to hear something from the company about it in the upcoming few weeks.
