Samsung yesterday held the Galaxy Unpacked event where the Galaxy S10 series was unveiled. The company also unveiled a number of products, one of which is the Galaxy Watch Active smartwatch. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active comes as a replacement for the Gear Sport. The new Galaxy Watch Active focuses more on physical activities and user health but the design looks very sleek rather than rugged. The smartwatch ditches the rotating bezel which has been a feature on previous Samsung Gear watches. Instead, it comes with a significantly thinner and cleaner bezel that wraps around the 1.1-inch circular display.Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

The Galaxy Watch Active comes with an aluminium casing paired with a simplistic rubber strap. The smartwatch also features two round physical buttons along the right side which replace the previous pill-shaped ones. The smartwatch also comes with a new glass panel on the rear that houses a heart rate monitor. On the internal, the Watch Active comes with the latest version of Tizen operating system but with several updates in the user interface. The smartwatch features an AMOLED display and is powered by a 236mAh battery under its hood which can deliver up to 24 hours usage out of a single charge. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

In terms of features, the Galaxy Watch Active focuses heavily on fitness. It tracks three main parameters daily: calories burned, minutes of exercise, and moving each hour. Each of these is tracked with their respective graphs that are highlighted in different colors. Other features include continuous heart rate monitoring which allows users to keep track of their heart rate throughout the day. The Galaxy Watch Active will also warn users if it detects any irregularities, just like Apple Watch. The watch also comes with an app known as My BP Lab which is for blood pressure monitoring.Samsung Galaxy Watch Active

The watch comes with 4GB of storage and has Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC support for mobile payments. Unfortunately, the wearable isn’t available with 3G or 4G LTE support. It is available in four colors; Silver, Black, Rose Gold, Sea Green and will retail for just $199.99 in the US. The smartwatch is expected to start shipping on March 8.
