Xiaomi Mi 8 was the Chinese phone maker’s flagship for last year. Despite the emergence of the Mi 9 yesterday, the Mi 8 still remains a highly desirable, sleek and powerful smartphone. Despite the high-end features it packs, the Mi 9 comes with several improvements over the Mi 8. So, fans would generally shift attention to the new flagship. Well, except they see a good offer that’s too hot to ignore. That is what Xiaomi is planning to do by slashing the price of the Mi 8 by a huge 500 yuan ($74).Xiaomi Mi 8

The 500 yuan ($74) price cut was announced today by Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun on his Weibo page. The price cut only affects the Mi 8 screen fingerprint version and that is because the current price overlaps with the 2999 yuan starting price of the Mi 9. The new price regime cuts across all the variants of the Mi 8 screen fingerprint variant and is presently in force on Xiaomi’s offline and online stores. Thus, the 6GB+128GB version will retail for 2499 yuan while the 8GB+128GB version will sell for 2899 yuan.
