The Taiwanese giant is struggling in the smartphone segment, but its VR headsets have leveraged the overall standing of the company. Last month at CES 2019, HTC announced two new premium VR headsets in the Vive line, named Cosmos and Vive Eye Pro. In a bid to further increase its VR products segment, HTC has announced a new yet more powerful Vive Focus Plus standalone VR headset.

The VR headset from HTC will support six degrees of freedom rather than three on the original controller launched last year. It will allow users to move around the HTC Vive Focus Plus rather than just rotating. The addition of these two new controllers has put it in direct competition against the Oculus Quest.

Further, teh HTC Vive Focus Plus is powered with a Snapdragon 835 chipset and hosts 3K AMOLED display. It gives the resolution of 2880 x 1600 pixels. Users can download the apps from the Viveport Online store as it runs on Vive Wave platform. The new VR headsets hold some minor changes in the design over its predecessor. The modern design aesthetics have improved the weight distribution in even manner across the device.

Although the company has not revealed the pricing details yet. It will debut sometime in the Q2 2019. The new VR headset from HTC will directly compete with the Oculus Quest, which is also due for launch in the second quarter this year. Except for some technical changes, the only difference that HTC Vive Focus Plus holds over the Oculus is its availability. HTC VR will be available for Enterprise users while the Oculus will be available for general use.

The new headset from HTC will be made available in 25 different countries including USA, Canda, UK, Australia, Japan, and China. Other details about the device are not available, and we expect it to be made available by the second quarter of this year. The original Focus VR Headset is available for the price of $599.
