The Mi 9 sold out really fast when it went on its first sale. According to Xiaomi, it sold out in less than a minute. Xiaomi is trying to meet up with demand and has now added a new OEM to increase production.

BYD Electronic

The new OEM is BYD Electronic (International) Company Limited and they will join Foxconn as manufacturers of the Mi 9 flagship. The information was revealed on Weibo by Lei Jun.

Xiaomi has always grappled with production so it mostly resorts to flash sales for a lot of its phones. Yesterday, CEO Lei Jun said he would join the production line if he needs to, so as to meet the target of 1 million units in the first month.

The Mi 9 launched on February 20. It has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 855 processor and up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It is Xiaomi’s first phone with triple rear cameras made up of a 48MP primary rear camera paired with a 12MP telephoto camera and a 16MP ultrawide-angle camera. The selfie camera is a 20MP sensor.
