There are reports that Meizu‘s system engineer Hong Hansheng has left the Chinese company to pitch tent with OPPO. A netizen first broke the news over the weekend. This was then corroborated by Meizu’s former director.
What makes this interesting is that the purported exit is coming barely a few days after Li Nan, co-founder and VP in charge of the Blue Charm brand announced his resignation from Meizu. Li Nan had seen his influence in product development whittle down after president and founder, Huang Zhang (Jerry Wang) returned back to the company. He is said to have claimed that he actually faded out of the company’s work after the Meizu 16th series was released.

Before now, Meizu’s organization structure was restructured after Huang Zhang’s return. The Blue Charm brand was separated with Li Nan in charge and Bai Yongxiang became the CEO of the flagship Meizu brand. However, product design was left for Huang Zhang. The result has been amazing from the products we have seen since then, especially the Meizu 16th series. However, in terms of sales and competitiveness, the company has lacked the bite to compete with the top OEMs.
The exit of Hong Hansheng who is in charge of the Meizu Flyme OS division may be an indication of internal dissatisfaction with the way Huang Zhang is running the company. We expect more details to emerge in the coming days.
