Recently, at an event, Honor’s President, George Zhao had confirmed that Honor’s new smart screen will be powered by Honghu 818 chipset, which is developed by Huawei’s Hisilicon in partnership with Baidu. This is different from the Kirin lineup that powers Huawei and Honor smartphones and looks to be optimized specifically for smart screen products.

The Honghu 818’s computing power and decoding capability will ensure that Honor’s new smart screen offers excellent picture and sound quality. The new chipset supports HDR, super-resolution (SR), noise-reduction (NR), dynamic contrast improvement (DCI), automatic color management (ACM) and motion estimation motion compensation (MEMC) technologies to offer a high-end video experience.

It also integrates Huawei’s Histen sound quality optimization technology which is found on the company’s smartphones as well. The Honghu 818 also supports 8K@30fps and 4K@120fps video decoding and up to 64MP image decoding.

The Honor smart screen also features a pop-up camera which is likely going be used to capture pictures and make video calls. However, what makes it even more interesting is that it supports facial recognition, which could be one of the ways to secure the device.

It has already been confirmed that the Honor Smart Screen devices will be the first products to be powered by the HongMeng OS. Recently, we also got the first sneak peek at the user interface of the Honor Smart Screen powered by the HongMeng OS.

As per the company’s claims, the 55-inch Honor Smart Screen will be more than a regular TV. Zhao has said that Honor does not want to release a traditional TV and instead, it wants to accelerate the evolution of the TV industry with the help of innovation.
