Xiaomi has filed a patent for a new smartphone design with World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) in China. The patent illustrations reveal that the smartphone features a periscope lens. Since it features a notch-less display and a pop-up selfie camera, it seems to be an ideal design for an upcoming Xiaomi phone.

The rear side of the phone features a vertical camera setup that includes as many as quad cameras. The first sensor in the camera setup appears to be a periscope lens which is followed by three other sensors. The rest of the rear shell of the phone is barren. Last month too, Xiaomi had filed a smartphone design that featured a periscope zoom lens with State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) in China.

The frontal image of the smartphone shows that it is equipped with a notch-less display. The chin of the device seems to be a bit thick and its upper bezel has an earpiece. It features a pop-up selfie snapper.

On the right edge of the device is the volume rocker and a power button. The SIM card tray appears to be on the left side of the device. The bottom of the phone features a USB-C port and an external speaker. It’s difficult to confirm form the images whether the phone features a 3.5mm audio jack or not.

Xiaomi’s flagship phones are quite popular. However, photography is one department where the Chinese brand it has been underperforming compared to flagship phones from Chinese rivals like Huawei and OPPO. The inclusion of periscope lens will make it possible for the phone to offer up to 60x digital zoom.

Xiaomi is expected to debut the net Mi MIX smartphone by October this year. The rumored Mi MIX 4 will be the first smartphone to come equipped with 108-megapixel camera sensor. Probably, it could be arriving as the first Xiaomi smartphone with periscope lens. It is advisable to wait for few more weeks to find out whether these speculations come true on the next Mi MIX series smartphone.
