The Redmi Note 8 and the Realme 5 are the less powerful versions of the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme 5 Pro. Both phones are different but they also share some similarities.

Realme 5 or Redmi Note 8 Poll

For starters, the Redmi Note 8 and the Realme 5 are both powered by the Snapdragon 665 chipset, so performance should definitely be the same on both devices if all other things are equal. They also both have quad rear cameras and their displays have the same notch design.

However, there are also some key differences which will influence your purchase.

Redmi has gone with premium materials for its phone; using Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides just as it did with the Redmi Note 7. It also uses an FHD+ panel, has a primary 48MP rear camera and a USB Type-C port just like its predecessor. Realme, on the other hand, covers only the front with Gorilla Glass while the rear is made of polycarbonate. The display is also an HD+ panel and it sports the old MicroUSB port. However, it packs a bigger battery – 5000mAh (10W charging) against the Redmi’s 4000mAh (18W charging) battery, is splash resistant and has a dedicated MicroSD card slot.

While both phones are yet to be available in the same market simultaneously (Redmi Note 8 is still only available in China while the Realme 5 is available in India), it is only a matter of time before that happens.

The Realme 5 with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage is priced at INR 10,999 (~$153) while the Redmi Note 8 with the same configuration is priced at CNY 999 (~$141). The price of the Redmi Note 8 will definitely change when it launches in India but its Chinese price should give a rough idea of the Indian price tag.

We are curious to know which our readers will purchase, so this week’s poll is to help us see which of these two mid-range princes is the more preferred option. So, please go ahead and vote below.
