Earlier this year when Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note 7 in India, it launched with 12MP + 2MP dual rear cameras instead of 48MP + 5MP dual cameras like the version sold in China. Xiaomi later announced a new version for India with a 48MP + 5MP dual cameras and called it the Redmi Note 7S.
The Redmi Note 7S eventually replaced the Redmi Note 7 in the market even though it cost a bit more. However, those who bought the Redmi Note 7 were not happy as a phone they bought just a few months ago was replaced with one with better camera specs for a few extra dollars.
A similar thing may happen with the Redmi Note 8 and the yet-to-be-announced Redmi Note 8T. Xiaomi is set to announce the Redmi Note 8T soon, which is practically a Redmi Note 8 with NFC support. Nothing more, nothing less.
While we do not know which markets will be getting the Redmi Note 8T, there is a possibility that production of the Redmi Note 8 may eventually cease and the Redmi Note 8T will take over.
