While the United States has taken strict measures against Huawei, Britain which is its ally has not. The British Parliament rejected a proposed ban on Huawei’s technology and products. The committee had said back in July that “there are no technical grounds for excluding Huawei entirely from the UK’s 5G or other telecommunications networks”.

Now, reports say Boris Johnson is set to grant Huawei access to the UK’s 5G network. First reported by Sunday Times, sources in the senior government and security services have said that the British government is moving forward with a decision to grant Huawei access to the “non-contentious” parts of the network.

There is not an explanation for what they meant by non-contentious parts of the network but some sources say this refers to areas of the network where if possible surveillance by the Chinese were to happen, the damage will be minimal.

The UK’s move may hurt its relationship with the US and may result in sanctions. However, others say that the decision to grant Huawei access may force Huawei’s competitors such as Nokia and Ericsson to lower prices.
