In recent times, DxOMark ratings have become increasingly more popular for smartphones. Previously, the company used to primarily focus on professional-grade cameras but has since diversified its expertise to smartphones. Now, ASUS‘s ROG Phone 2 (Republic of Gaming) has ranked in the top 5 for audio quality in smartphones according to DxOMark ratings.

The ROG Gaming Phone 2 scored an overall 69 points in the DxOMark rating which gives it the 4th position in the ranking list. In terms of sound alone, the ASUS gaming smartphone has received a very good score, according to officials. Breaking down the score, the handset receive 70 points for audio playback and 64 points for recording. Needless to say, it is a gaming phone and playback is much more important than recording in most cases.

For sound output, the ASUS ROG Gaming Phone 2 has stereo speakers that support DTS X output. Notably, each stereo speaker has a built-in independent amplifier as well. The gaming smartphone is also equipped with a dedicated muffler microphone. The device provides excellent audio performance with sufficient volume with its dual front-facing speakers, especially for gamers. The dual speaker positioning also helps provide users with a wide range and accurate sound fields.

To sum things up, the strengths of the ROG Gaming Phone 2 definitely lies with its gaming audio. However, in terms of recording, the phone’s volume of recorded sound is relatively low and may suffer from excessive background noise. Hence, voice communication in the crowded outdoors is one of its weaknesses. Additionally, the list of the top-performing smartphones is led by Huawei Mate 20 X, followed by Apple iPhone XS Max and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
