Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf said in a recent interview that there is indeed competition between Qualcomm and Huawei in certain areas, but when it comes to 5G development both companies will need to cooperate to achieve optimal growth. This is in response to a question regarding the state of 5G and whether Qualcomm sees it as a race.

Mollenkopf states in the interview that he doesn’t believe Huawei and Qualcomm will be butting heads when it comes to 5G development. The two tech giants going head to head would certainly be interesting to watch unfold, but it’s counter intuitive to the actual development. Both companies need to work together to set international standards for 5G.

Mollenkopf then goes on to bluntly say that it especially won’t happen as it doesn’t benefit either company. While both companies do compete in certain fields such as market share in the IP field and some fields, they need to and have been working together to push faster and better 5G development forward.

Before that, Mollenkopf also stated in the interview that China has not overtaken the United States in terms of 5G technology, but in the deployment of 5G, especially the construction of base stations, China’s development is really very fast. While both companies may be cooperating, the 5G race is still unmistakably going on, and we’re excited to see how it goes.
