On 18th December 2019, Xiaomi‘s Wuhan headquarters has officially opened with Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi Group, attending the opening ceremony. The new headquarters of the Chinese company is located in Optics Valley Central City, in the Hubei province and has been completed in just two years since its official listing.

Back in 2017, Xiaomi’s Wuhan Headquarters was first announced in the East Lake Development zone as a new area of settlement. Jump forward to 25th November 2018, the company held the unveiling ceremony in the same location announcing that the project is officially started. Now, in just two years since its official announcement, the headquarters is finally complete.

The total construction area of Xiaomi’s new Wuhan headquarters is about 52,000 square meters which can accommodate anywhere between 2,400 to 3,000 employees. Previously, Lei Jun had revealed that the production cost alone for the new headquarters was 10.5 billion Yuan or roughly 1.5 billion US dollars. Notably, the company has also recruited about 2,000 employees out of which 80 percent were hired from the local areas.

The Wuhan Headquarters of Xiaomi is the second center of the company’s artificial intelligence department; through which the company plans on building Hubei Xiaomi Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation Center for future techs scientific research and development. This will further be supplemented by employees taken up directly from various reputable universities in the region.
